Rhode Island Wants Gay Marriage

According to a Brown University survey, sixty percent of Rhode Island voters would support a law that allows same-sex couples to marry. Seventy-five percent of the state's voters are in favor of civil unions. 
When it comes to whether either will be a reality in the near future, I point to the word "hope" displayed prominently on their flag.

Just thought I’d mention that Governor Cacieri, in his speech at the URI graduation made a comment along the lines that RI is proud to be staying true to tradition and not passing gay marriage legislation like the rest of New England. There was minor rustling after this comment, but I don’t know how many people actually heard this or were still paying attention to it. I was surprised that this comment was made at the graduation of the state university in a pretty liberal state…
