Matthew Morrison Doesn’t Like Britney

Britney on Glee
After the awesome Madonna episode of Glee, Britney Spears' manager Adam Leber went on Twitter and asked her fans if they would like to see an episode dedicated to the "Toxic" singer. Adam's question started a whole campaign trying to get Britney her own episode and also led to the trending topic #BritneySpearsGlee on Twitter.

Anywho, Matthew Morrison doesn't like the idea of a Britney episode. When asked about Britney and Glee, he responded, "That’s a rumor her manager started. I hope our show doesn’t go along that route."

Doesn't go along that route? Is he kidding? I would totally watch Glee if they had a Britney episode. I'm jizzing in excitement just thinking about the possibility of it. Crazy or not, Britney has a dedicated fan base and would pull in good ratings.Thoughts?

  1. I’m totally okay without a Britney episode. I honestly can’t stand her. She was good once, but now she’s just dried up and it’s time for the world to move on.

  2. an episode dedicated to britney would pull them rating that they had never seen or ever see after that.
britney is like a media magnet.
british X-factor (american idol equivalents) with britney on it, attracted the most viewers they ever had.
there are so many shows with/about britney that had their ratings because of britney.
ppl starve for britney, they wanna see more. especially now that she doesn’t do much media work.
they’d miss a lot if they don’t go along with it.

  3. britney has had her share of the spotlight for too long already. She’s not talented enough to keep being a go-to for ratings. The only reason she’s relevant anymore is because the tabloid rags keep following her.
She’s washed up and no real lasting talent anyway. Please, Glee, don’t do it!!!

  4. I don’t care for Britney (sorry Brit fans), but if you look at her library fairly, she’s released quite a few good songs. Although I won’t die if Glee doesn’t do her, I think it would be interesting to see the show tackle her catalog.

  5. Britney’s music, while (sometimes) entertaining, is not technically “good”, and I personally think not having it on the show is a good idea. The quality of music would be lowered. Britney is not a singer, she is a product, and has no place be on the show.
Beyonce would be an interesting choice simply because she has done a lot and would have a lot of options and genres to choose from.

  6. translation: britney’s dance moves are fucking hard to pull off – and none of the Glee cast who are more singers than dancers would be able to do it.
toxic, oops i did it again, baby one more time -piece of me, dance sequences are hectic.
they would need months worth of rehearsals to pull off all the dance sequences correctly without looking foolish.
i actually agree with him – rather not do it than make fools of the cast.
they should rather do a zooey deschanel indie artist show.
dream a little dream like zoeey did it
why do you let me stay here
    sentimental heart
    i was made for you
or bonny tynler – i would love to see sue sing total eclipse of the heart

  7. I don’t see why they can’t have a Britney episode if they had a Madonna one already. Both are pop sensations, both are a lot of controversy, both have a large number of fans, and they both have vocals that are OK.
Personally, I think Glee has enough ratings and a Britney episode is unnecessary, but it wouldn’t hurt the show.

  8. As a gleek, I don’t want to watch a Britney’s episode. I already to plan something else to do while skipping that Gaga’s one. But like some of us said, it would bring good rating. Sad that some people still like that lip-syncing bra-less tart.

  9. ugh. please no Britney. a song or two, maybe, but a whole episode? britney is in no way, shape, or form in a league with Madonna. i’m not even a huge fan of Madonna but i can see she’s a music industry legend. Britney will be a footnote in music history. please, Glee, forego a Britney ep. Maybe a cutesy guest star role like ONJ would work.

  10. Actually the songs of Britney Spears are very compelling. They are hits because they are catchy and VERY melodic. The twist is that Britney (like Madonna) can’t sing very well.
We love them (Brit & Madge) in spite of the vocal limitations because they are SHOW girls. They are people you WANT to see. Plus, the songs as previously mentioned are good. Of course, if you don’t like spectacle it makes since that you won’t like artists like that.
My question is who in GOD’S name made it okay for the straight guy to make the creative decisions for a show we all know grabs a lot of female and gay male viewers?

  11. what do you mean brit and madonna cant sing i think their music is wonderful.. they should have a britney episode… she has straightened up got her stuff together now i dont see a problem

  12. Sorry not going to watch a night of glee with Britney. Would hate to turn the TV off but I would.

  13. Madonna has always had opinions, intelligence, empowerment, and a queer identified morality that made her a perfect choice for a musical show that thrives in all these areas. She readily admits that singing was never her biggest talent. She is a conceptual artist working in a pop music idiom. And Britney??? She was a great dancer and lipsyncher back in the day…and had a hand in some huge hit songs. That’s about it.

  14. haha so wait…a britney song isn’t ok but ‘Ice Ice Baby’ is? innnnnnnnteresting…

  15. I agree 100% with Nex…. the show would have it’s highest rating EVER.
She’s the first non- American Idol artist in 11 years to have a song debut #1 on the Hot 100 with zero promotion (no interviews, performances, radio shows… NOTHING)
She has the highest grossing tour in North America in 2009 with 2 completely sold out legs in N.A.
She is the best selling female artist of the last decade.
She has sold over 85 Million albums in 10 years of career.
Glee would be lucky to have Britney on their show to be honest.

  16. …I think what Matt Morrison meant when he said he hopes that the show doesn’t go on that route was to have a stars manager start campaigns to feature their music…it’s not that her music is good or bad (personally, I don’t like her music) but if people start campaigns to feature a singer, it will ruin the integrity of the show….it’s fun to see how they use the different songs to move along the plot…and besides, the one-singer episode has been done!

  17. watched 2 episodes of the show and literally thought about writing Fox in hopes that they would give me the 2 hours back…
the show just didnt appeal to me, it was too campy and none of the characters established themselves as someone that you could actually care about… they seemed more like “flat”, one dimensional characters that the writers were just moving around to fit the scene…
and a britney spears episode? maybe they could do some of her slower songs or ballads… w/e…

  18. Oh, please…the Madonna episode was the worst to date, and a Brittany episode would be even more insufferable. Her 15 minutes of fame were up years ago.
    Next!

  19. Wow, lots of Brit haters.
Look, you may not like her, but there’s no denying that Britney has left her mark on pop music. She’s not just a “footnote” in music history, she’s an icon. A young legend. Britney Spears, and NOBODY else, resurrected the female pop genre, following in the footsteps of Madonna and Janet Jackson.
She made music videos hot again.
She made pop music fun again.
She may not be Madonna (yet), but there’s not a single artist out there closer to it.
And if Glee can devote an entire episode to that bandwagon-jumping, crotch thrusting whore Madonna, and if they can perform “Ice, Ice Baby” and end an episode with an AVRIL LAVIGNE song, then in no fucking way are they “too good” for Britney Spears, the BIGGEST selling pop female act of the last motherfucking decade.
Matthew Morrison has some nerve to talk, as he’s performed some of the corniest songs to hit the show. “Ice, Ice Baby”??? “Thong Song”???
But perhaps all is well, Britney probably wouldn’t want to attach herself to a show that, quality-wise, is on the slump. The show lost its integrity when the popularity of the first season got to the writers’ heads and they suddenly felt that they had to preach to us like an after-school special on a Christian network every episode.

  20. “Home” has been the best episode to date(check it out on fancast) and it had a mix of Sprinstein, Bacharach/David and Small. Although the dance is sometimes important, this is a show about a Glee club, and Glee clubs sing.

  21. The only reason I would argue strongly against a Britney Spears episode is because I think I’d rather see a handful of her songs through a series of episodes than just repeatedly having tons of tribute episodes. Unless they do Bonnie Tyler and Meatloaf and they include Ravishing. Which I’d totally be down for. I’m hoping the Glee producers will read this and grant my fantasy.

  22. I’d watch a Britney episode before a Gaga episode. That said, I’ve never seen Glee.

  23. To Brandon23:
Brit an Icon?? An Icon of what?? A female “singer”?? No sir, Fiona Apple would be good, Karen O had made it trough in good shape, ev’n Christina, who I don’t like at all, but man she have more credit because she can ACTUALLY SING.. why Britney who doesn’t even sing?? As sumone else said, she’s a product. Or as J.V. said once onan oiterview: She’s just a voiceboxed barbie.
She made Music Videos crappy again (dance routines on vids? How corny!!) Pop music fun?? Hell, no!! But repetitive and boring (sequels that had preserve ev’n now!)
Oh, by the way Bjork can beat Madonna ANYTIME!
And did you saw the “Ice, Ice Baby” episode?? It was about PROSCRIT SONGS, songs with “Bad Reputation”, wich was the complete idea of the episode!! Just in that episode, I would include a Brit hit!
I would prefer TEN TIMES BETTER an Yeah Yeah Yeah’s episode, with a great gay friendly Karen O, or any ARTIST, and not just Plastic performers like Brit, to get in the show. My two cents.

  24. Potblessed, just because you dislike Britney Spears doesn’t mean she isn’t an icon. I could find no other current artists that defines that word better than Britney Spears….
    <———— Haters to the left

  25. She’s an icon of everything a true icon isn’t MBL. She is not revolutionary in any way, she is not creative or smart or edgy, her producers and her wranglers have done everything. She doesn’t even sing live, and her shows are spectacles to distract you from all of these facts (and from the fact that she can barely dance live these days, I wonder how long those new videos take to make).
She’ll be more like Paula Abdul than Madonna (if anything). Selling a bunch of albums doesn’t make her good, it makes her handlers smart and the public dumb and easily pleased.

  26. @Michael
Did you know that the original concept for the “Baby One More Time” video, the concept pitched by her “handlers”, was to have Britney Spears playing around with a bunch of cartoon characters, similar to Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” video?
Britney, however, didn’t like this idea, and pitched the concept of being in a school, and including sexy choreography.
That video went on to become not only Britney’s most iconic video to date, but one of the most iconic videos of the 2000’s. Period. The catholic schoolgirl look will forever belong to that video.
And it was All. Britney’s. Idea.
Look, I’m not saying she’s a genius. I’m not saying she doesn’t have “handlers”. But to say that Britney didn’t have anything to do with her success is just wrong. there were dozens of girls before and after her that had “handlers” and were bred to become stars, and yet didn’t make it because they didn’t have the drive an talent that Britney has in spades.
You don’t have to like her music, but you can’t knock her achievements, which do more than enough to make her worthy of a show like Glee.
There are people out there who don’t like Britney Spears because they don’t dig the music, and that’s fine. And then there are people out there who don’t like Britney Spears BECAUSE she’s Britney Spears. And that’s clearly a few people on this site, Michael.

  27. Ok, what I like about the show…Some of the cast are incredibly talented singers (Matthew and Leah) who can sing live and sound possibly even better than on the show. Madonna is not the best voice perhaps, but conceptually she has altered pop culture, no doubt. Olivia Newton John can sing, so no argument there.
Britney…hmmm. I agree with much of what has already been posted, so no need to re-hash. Except maybe mr(s)”haters”. I say, “ignorance to the left”.
Matthew has his opinion. And I will stand behind him (one who can probably sing ms directed into the ground). I feel that if you can actually get up there and do as good or better, then you have every right to critique. If not, then shaddup and get to the back of the line. No, you don’t have to agree with him. But if you are going to be a dissenter, then show us what you got first.
Furthermore, what is this country’s fascination with false prophets? Is it really so much easier to side with a not-so-repentant sinner, than aspire to something true and virtuous? I just wish we had a better pop-therapist than oprah and dr. phil in our midst. 2012 can’t come soon enough, in my opinion.

  28. calling that cracked out tramp a footnote in music history is being extremely generous and insulting to real footnotes in music history!

  29. A guest appearance – yeah, that’d be nice. A whole episode – that’d be shit.
No, don’t get me wrong, I like Brit as much as the next gay, but the Madonna episode was… very specific. Madonna has been around and awesome since the eighties, and she’s re-invented herself about 4-5 times, and contributed something new to music history each time. I think she’s getting a bit tired now, and she should just give it up and go to the old folks home where she belongs – but there is absolutely no arguing that she’s a huge music icon.
Britney, on the other hand… sure, she was a big music sensation and she’s had bunches of hits…. but seriously? She’s not an icon – she has no right to a whole episode, imo. Michael Jackson, ACDC, The Beatles, Elvis, Frank Cinatra, Ella Fitzgerald – Any of those I’d rather see having their own episode before Britney. And even then… doing on episode dedicated to a music icon was a cool idea. Doing a whole series of dedicated episodes – that’d get real old really fast.
    One was enough.

  30. I think instead of worrying about which stars and music to feature, Glee needs to focus on a story and character development. A fun guest appearance here and there is fine, but the show is quickly becoming a sitcom. They seem to decide what songs/artists to use then build a plot around the music. It should be done the opposite – the music should accentuate the story, not drive it.
I like Britney, but I hate to imagine what plot they would come up with for her songs.

  31. Britney yuck. What would rock though would be if each character had to find their inner diva. Rachael = Babs, Quinn = Britney, Mercedes = Aretha, Santana = JLo, BRITTANY = Jessica Simpson, Kurt = Cher

  32. Michael you seem to know a lot about Britney Spears than. You say she’s only big because of her handlers.
Every single music video Britney has ever filmed had it’s concept created by Britney. On some of those she even went as far as co-directing the videos. She has written many songs in every album she has. She may not always sing live but she’s an entertainer and dancer too.
If you are ignorant to believe everything you read about her is true than you are very wrong.
To her real fans, we know the deep, artist, creative Britney with unreleased songs that were written from real places and troubled times.
You’d also respect her for everything she went through and still came out with 2 consecutive #1 lead singles, one debuting @ #1 on the Hot 100 without any promotion at all (first non american idol artist in 11 years to do so, first in 3 of any artist).
I think she deserves it and I would love to see it.
and if a Britney glee episode is too unbearable for some of you, well us B fans can make that episode recording breaking… trust me.

  33. You guys act like you you all have the best taste in music and that Britney is crap.
Now excuse me, but as far as I know it’s all a matter of opinion and there is no wrong or right.
I’m sure if I said I found Cher or Madonna or Gaga a terrible star people here would go apeshit…
So what if enough people like Britney for them to consider and episode. Turn off your TV or change the channel and for all of you who don’t want it to happen, how about you let it happen but just skip it???

  34. I would LOVE to see a Britney episode. Even more so, a Beyonce/ Destiny’s Child episode would be AMAZING! While a GaGa episode is a nice idea, it’s a bad one. Even though she is what’s current, she is too current, and it won’t come off as anything more than a cheap parody, or imitation.

  35. Wow, things are just getting super heated around here.
I think the point that too many artist specific or theme weeks is gimmicky is true. It’s a point for limited artist theme weeks.
Also, let’s not make this about the personalities of the artists. It’s not about who Madonna is, but the actual quality of her body of work. Same goes for any other artist we discuss.
I don’t like the Beatles, but if they did a Beatles episode I would be down for it. I think their song writing was spot on, and I am all for hearing well written songs performed in new and hopefully exciting ways.
That being said, if you don’t like Britney look for some of the You Tube COVER versions of her songs.
In the same vein, um did you know “I Will Always Love You” was a Dolly Parton song? Country to Adult Contemporary, Gospel Infused pop… It’s what Pop Idol/American Idol was founded on, the idea that great songs can transcend genres and the narrow-minded ideas of what they should be. Ballad version of “If I Can’t Have You”, sign me up… rock version of “Gimme More”… Piano Ballad version of “My Humps”. Hey, I got 5 minutes to hear the song… or was that 4 minutes to save the world?

  36. @Verdell S

    Very nicely put 🙂

I personally cannot wait for this episode. Like it or not, her songs ARE iconic.
