Internet Coverage of Gay Marriage Dominates Print Media

Fernando Sippel
You may recall the unfortunate May 26th California Supreme Court ruling to uphold Proposition 8 and how it dominated the internet for that entire week. In the print media? Not so much.
According to a study, thirty-five percent of news coverage on the internet for the week of May 25-29 was devoted to gay marriage, while the topic accounted for less than ten percent of print media coverage. What were the newsies talking about besides Prop 8? Well, twenty-four percent of their coverage dealt with the nomination of Sonia Sotomayer for Supreme Court justice, a topic accounting for twelve percent of blogosphere discussions.
