Welcome to our occasional “He’s Gay” feature, wherein we cover who came out this week. We know, it’s not THAT common. But it seems to have become a lot easier for people to open up about their sexuality. At least for the famous ones. Your Bible Belt teen is probably not jazzed enough to come out in the school paper or anything, but we’re getting there. Soon this won’t even be news! Three men in the public eye came out yesterday and today. Two from the sport of basketball, and one a prominent newscaster.
CNN news anchor (and cute guy) Don Lemmon has opened up about his homosexuality in his new memoir, Transparent, and spoke to the New York Times about his experiences being gay and closeted in the African-American community.
“It’s quite different for an African-American male,” he said. “It’s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You’re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away.”
Lemmon says that his colleagues at CNN knew he was gay, but this is the first time he has acknowledged it publicly. Hey Don, you should talk to Anderson.

To find out who else has come out so far this week, Follow the JUMP:
Rick Welts is a prominent former NBA executive. He’s the guy who created NBA All-Star Weekend, and he’s currently the president of the Phoenix Suns. He’s also one of the only (THE only?) people involved with professional basketball to come out of the closet while they were still working in the field. Can you blame the guys in the closet, when players like Kobe Bryant are still saying stupid shit? Welts has been involved with professional b-ball for 40 years, and kept silent about his sexuality because, well, it’s professional sports. After a relationship of 14 years ended due to his being in the closet, Welt decided enough was enough. I hope his ex comes back to him.
Speaking of basketball, Will Sheridan was a starter for most of his athletic career at Villanova. And he’s gay. The whole team knew, but no one said anything. Because they didn’t care! Now he’s out and proud, and launching a career as a hip-hop artist. Because society needs more gays who can rap. Eminem and Will Smith just aren’t cutting it.
Let me know when Anderson Cooper finally comes out!
I’d like to see Lemmon forcing his big chocolate cock into Anderson Coopers plucked, pink pucker hole. I bet Cooper would scream like a girl when Lemmon’s log stretches the Cooper hole to it’s breaking point.
Ok this wasn’t a huge surpise to learn that Don Lemon is gay, first he is cute so i was very pleased. Now the one that i’am curious about is TJ Holmes. Is he gay?
J-
Friendly edit for you. The man’s name is Rick Welts.
kind knew some thing fishing about him,he almost came out once, when he said that he was abused as young,….
I watched Joy Behar interview Don and was quite taken with him and his story. We should live in a world where it’s okay to be who you are and where one’s sexual orientation doesn’t matter…unless of course you’re trying to have sex with them. I also hope to live in a world where Anderson is my fuck buddy. Just saying.
When is Joy Behar coming out?

Anderson Cooper mentioned he was gay last year. To the effects of either “dah, that was obvious” or “we really don’t care”, it made barely a ripple in the media.
I saw Lemon cover the ground during a New Year’s Eve celebration at Times Square. It was pretty obvious that he was gay.
