Chaz Bono (formerly Chastity Bono) appeared on Good Morning America to talk about his recent in-the-headlines sex change. As a FTM transgendered person, Chaz has a lot to share about the process and this is his first interview on the subject.
It's a very interesting conversation, and I'll admit that I was surprised by the change in voice that happens with hormone treatment. I say good for him for speaking out!

For many years I have admired Chastity. Being thrust into the public eye with famous parents is never easy for a child. Being thrust into the public eye and being something other than the societal “norm” at the same time must have been unbearable, yet she managed to turn that adversity into a very positive public image, helping others who struggle with coming out to family and friends.
Now, having become Chaz, he has come to terms with the fact that he can’t go through this change in private. He is again embracing the inevitable gossip, gawking and publicity and has turned it around to show others that they are not alone. I can not begin to perceive what people with opposite gender association must experience. I do know that for those who do, whether considering reassignment or not, they have a positive role model, an advocate and a true “hero” to look up to.
Bravo Chaz for having more courage in one moment than most of us could muster in a lifetime!
