Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: Kanye Vs. Taylor

It’s douchebags versus wedding crashers in today’s edition of the Weekly Top Ten Wild Card. Yes, there are only two competitors in this round–Kanye West and Taylor Swift. While we’d love to forget the great “I’mma let you finish” incident of 2009, the world keeps finding clever ways of reminding us. Case in point? Both of these artists released a new single on the same day.

As I type this post, Kanye’s “Runaway” and Taylor’s “Speak Now” rest comfortably in the top two positions of the iTunes music store, but there’s only room for one of them on our countdown. Who will it be? Get your vote in before it’s too late!

To listen and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

Kanye West f/ Pusha T – Runaway: Despite my best efforts, I can’t hate this song. Granted, I’m one of the few people who quickly forgave Kanye for his “jerk-off” antics, but my love extends much deeper than that. Would you hate me if I called Kanye West a musical genius? Of course, this probably isn’t the best example…

Taylor Swift – Speak Now: After the incredibly boring “Mine” hit the airwaves, I was ready to give up on Taylor Swift. Thankfully, she’s redeemed herself with “Speak Now”. I’m not going to say it’s my new favorite song, but it sure as hell beats crap like “Today Was A Fairytale”.

  1. both are boring, but better than either’s latest efforts. Going with Taylor since it’ll fall off the official chart with ease.

  2. I’m going to have to go w/ Kanye! Taylor’s song is boring, and highly forgettable, but I do however love “Mine.” It’s already obvious to predict how this is going to go considering people are going to vote against Kanye with intense bias, so really what’s the point?

  3. If Kanye West is “a genius,” I’m Albert Einstein! The fact that anyone buys the disgusting garbage he calls music is only further evidence of the dumbing down of America and the demise of culture. This particular cut here has to be one of the lowest examples of what today is called “music” that I’ve ever heard. And people wonder why the youth of today are the way they are? Wake up, people. China is at our doorstep, and we have let them in with open arms. Kids should be studying science and technology and bio-medical research, but they are spending their time listening to Kanye West filth and making him a multi-millionaire. The only one laughing is he.

  4. ….okay so now that the bitchy Queen moment is out of the way, lets get back on topic!

I’m gonna have to go with Kanye on this one, but I’m not digging the actual (hopefully not final) recording of Runaway. The live performances seem mixed with much more energy.

  5. Bad choices. All the music tracks featured throughout this week have been lame. No song should be eliminated from the Top 10 then.

  6. Yeah JimmyT choose peoples lifestyle’s for them, Tell them what to do their time & hey even tell them what they should become! You sound a bit Paranoid about the Chinese there … I bet you wanna be fucked hard by a chinese and now your making it who’s problem. That’s fucking sad moron.

PS: I vote for Kanye here.

  7. Kanye is a jackass so I guess Ms. Swift gets the vote, but I totally disagree with only two contenders for the Wild Card. I can only imagine how bad the Top 10 is this weekend.

  8. No paranoia about the Chinese nor any desire to be fucked by one. And you can vote for Kanye West as many times as you want and listen to his created scum forever as far as I’m concerned. I’m just looking at the world and telling you what I see. People like Kanye West are the reason the “N” word still exists in white vocabularies, however. And I voted for Barack Obama, by the way, before you call me a racist.

  9. I understand why Kanye’s label went safe with this choice as a single instead of Monster. They’re trying to get him some pop exposure. But I think Monster would’ve been a better choice as a single, instead of just an urban promo single. While the rest of his peers seem to be caught up in the whole auto-tune/electro vibe, Monster is completely different. No other hip-hop artist is doing anything that sounds like it.

As for Taylor… I get it. I know the saying, “If it isn’t broke, make ten songs that sound like it.” Acts like Nickelback & Daughtry have made their careers and legions of fans out of recording the same song dozens of times. I’m sure the girl is just as sweet as pie. And she’s darn good at what she does. I just wish she’d step outside the box a bit…however far outside the box she can step without damaging her singer/songwriter cred.

As for the choice between safe and sounds the same as…, I went with safe. I voted for Kanye. I’ll say something to the Kanye haters similar to something I said in a post a few days ago about another topic… It’s been over a year. It’s time to move on.

  10. i think that both songs suck equally and that both artist just need to fight to the death to end their little tiff

  11. Sadly, Lemaitre proves everything that JimmyT is saying as far as ignorance and dumbing down of American culture and education is concrned. Clearly Lemaitre lacks the ability to write a simple sentnce using the english language.

  12. All y’all kanye west haters as kanye said and i quote “tell them yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass more specifically they could kiss my asshole” you fuckin haters(i.e jimmy T) can’t just sit and watch some1 succeed. If u can do beta why not go to the studio and lets c what u think is your so called kind of music asshole.talkin shit about china, i bet the chinese already owns your asshole.what does voting have to do with china fucker you were asked to vote and not talk shit.if u dont like either of the songs or the artist sit your crappy fuckin ass down or go and kiss a chinese ass or suck their balls since they own u nigga. Well i vote for Mr West
