WBC Meets Their Nerdy Match

Before I start this post, just know that I mean nerdy in the best way possible. So, the Westboro Baptist Church‘s latest ridiculous target for protest was Comic-con, a gathering of all things sci-fi and awesomely dorky culture.

I’m not sure why they chose this group to protest, maybe it was that gay comic book hero… or the more likely answer: they just crave attention.

My favorite sign from the counter protesters has got to be “God Loves Gay Robin”!

  1. Ha!! God NEEDS a Starship! Love me sum Star Trek references! These bigots need to go somewhere, lay (lie… can never get that) down & die.

  2. I saw an article from another site about this. I love it. I don’t mind Christians, it’s the extremists I can’t stand. Finally, someone fights back.

  3. The WBC used to really anger me but after I realized how insane they are I don’t really care anymore. I love how they hate America, the Military, the Walt Disney Company, the Pope, and Catholics as well. I don’t know why they haven’t realized they are a complete joke and their cult accomplishes nothing. Maybe if they didn’t hate Catholics and America they would have some influence.

  4. Fred Phelps’ “church” (really, it’s a cult that’s mostly comprised of his family members) is like an internet troll, trying to say outrageous things to rile people up. Clever and fun counter-demos like this make me happy. The best one was probably the response from Matthew Shepard’s friends (as detailed in “The Laramie Project”).

Or there’s this great idea from a guy in Chicago, hatched earlier this year when Phelps & Co. came to town: Raise funds for gay groups that Phelps opposes and send Phelps a thank-you note.

Here’s the YouTube link (can we post links here?):

  5. Heh my wife came to me laughing her ass off over this scene. she came across it and said she was so proud to be a nerd. Her favorite was the fact that the comic cons had bullhorns and was shouting “What do we want? – Gay Sex! And when do we want it! – Now!”

  6. Fred Phelps is the ultimate lunatic!

The only upside I can see, is that ‘normal’ people don’t want to be associated with anyone like this…I think he actually helps the gay cause more than hurts it…but a part of me believes if there really is a god, that Phelps will be struck down by lightening in the middle of one of his bullying, hater, protests…

    Just sayin…a guy can hope!

  7. I say that, when Fred Phelps dies, everyone that he’s protested should go to his funeral and protest his burn-in-hell propaganda he’s tried to spread.

  8. WTF?!?! These people have really gone around the bend. Let’s hope the Supreme Court renders against them this fall in a 1st amendment decision.
