Rosie O’Donnell is back to work! NBC has green-lighted Rosie’s Variety Show. It is set to air live from New York City on the eve of Thanksgiving.
The show will have many celebrity guests, music acts, comedy, and contests, in true ‘variety’ fashion. "We want to show people that variety can be done in a new and inventive way for 2008." said Craig Plestis, the NBC Entertainment V.P for alternative programming and specials. He added, "It’s going to be the YouTube of variety shows"
We think this could work, variety shows were a big hit in America for a long time, but have since fallen out of style… if Rosie can resurrect them it will bode well for her. The show is also in consideration for a regular series in 2009.
I guess variety shows are going to attempt a full comeback. Fox has followed suit and signed with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne to host a six-episode series, also slated for next year.
I hope they do Sonny and Cher proud!!!
