Paterson Re-introduces Marriage Equality Bill in New York

David Paterson
This morning on Ithaca's WHCU AM, Governor David Paterson confirmed that he will be re-introducing legislation to make same-sex marriage legal in New York state. Paterson told the station, "We'll put a [same sex marriage] bill out and let the people decide one way or the other…Why can’t a bill just be on the floor and lose? If you have the votes later on to pass it, bring it back.”
Though it's still uncertain whether the New York Senate will have enough votes to pass the bill, one things for sure–the governor won't veto it this time around! Paterson is known to be a supporter of marriage equality. Last May, he signed a directive to recognize same-sex marriages performed outside of New York. Could this next step lead to New York being the fifth state to perform gay marriages?
