Olympics 2016 Battle Heats Up

2016 Olympics

The fight for hosting privileges in the 2016 Summer Olympics has been more fierce than usual, with President Barack Obama making the trip to Copenhagen to fight for his hometown of Chicago.

The other main contender is Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Their main argument is that South America has never hosted the games, and as Brazilian President Lula Da Silva said, "It is time to address this imbalance."

The decision will come down a little later today, around 1 pm EST, and although Chicago is the favorite, Rio is considered a strong second. Who are you guys rooting for? And whose logo do you like best?

UPDATE: Chicago is OUT in the first round! Ouch! Now it's between Madrid, Tokyo and Rio De Janeiro, with Rio being the favorite.

UPDATE 2X: It's Rio! Rio De Janeiro has won the games and it will be the first time South America has hosted the games. Rio is a great city, lots of hot men too!

  1. Maybe the committee saw the footage of the teenage honor student being beaten to death; that would certainly sway their decision. Can you imagine a foreign tourist getting lost by acidentally taking a bus to the south side? They would never be seen again.

  2. Thank God Chicago didn’t get it!
I live here and we already have the highest taxes in the nation, we did not need them to go higher.

  3. I have always heard how beautiful Brazil in more ways than one. Good for them finally getting the Olympics.

  4. Rio had four times more murders than Chicago last year, has no infrastructure (has to come up with 14 billion to build it),and is unsanitary. Chicago had the best plan. No tax increases, almost all coming from private money. Left over Anti American sentiment from the Bush years and the fact that the Olympics have never been in South America are the only reasons Chicago and AMERICA did not get the games.

  5. Sean, learn something before you speak please. 1. Rio also promised no tax increases or new taxes, the SAME way Chicago did.
    2. Brazil is the 8th largest economy in the world, despite American ignorance thinking it’s a shit poor country, it’s not and 14B is fine for them.
    3. Chicago and crime? hmm Rio may have more, but at least it’s in the slums, not in the middle of the city like in Chicago.
    4. Did u watch the Rio presentation at all, or just talking out of your ass, cause if you did you’d know why they won. Best presentation and plan hands down! much better than Chicago’s.

  6. Marc, where did you pull “crimes in the middle of the city” in Chicago? out of your ass? Crimes are mostly in ghetto and project neighborhoods, but by far they’re not as big as Rio.
And Chris, Chicago is awesome too, Chicago is diverse, warm and welcoming people, a lot of hot guys, and a lot of places/things to do.
As a chicagoan Im dissappointed at the anti-american hatred of the commitee voting us out first. In the end, Rio won because there was never an olympics in South America, how lame, political correctness shite

  7. I guess the Olympic committee was more Brazilian fans than bear lovers, huh?
Seriously, though, as a Chicago-born American and a Summer Olympics fan, I’m disappointed, but I’m not going to bitch about it or put words in the committee’s mouths.
BTW, did anyone else find it odd that the logos of the two front-runners didn’t use the Olympic colors?
