At a recent Empire State Pride Agenda dinner, NY Senator Charles Schumer announced that he now supports same-sex marriages and a full repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.
The following statement from Schumer's office appeared in the NY Daily News: "It’s time. Equality is something that has always been a hallmark of America and no group should be deprived of it. New York, which has always been at the forefront on issues of equality, is appropriately poised to take a lead on this issue."
One step at a time! I can just smell the history waiting to be made…

Um, right. New York is poised to take the lead. Except for, you know, all the states that legalized gay marriage first, or even civil unions, while New York still has nothing.
