New York Senate Axes Marriage Equality Act

ArticleLarge

Sad news coming from Albany. The Marriage Equality Act failed in the New York Senate, with a vote of 24-38. After I swelled with hope listening to passionate speeches by Senator Eric Adams, Senator Eric T. Schneiderman and many others on the live feed, I'm feeling especially bummed about this development.

How long will it take before gay New Yorkers are provided the right to get married? It seems absurd that it hasn't already happened! Pardon me while I retreat into this corner and get extremely sad about the state of the world. Anyone care to inject me with a little optimism? I need a drink or two…

  1. Goodness, New York of all places! Whatever happened to Broadway? The diversity of NY should have allowed this to happen. Politics and getting re-elected is my guess with the votes.

  2. Absolutely repulsive. Yet another state on my shit list.
There’s NEVER a good time for civil rights. If every state left civil rights up to popular vote, there would still be segregated states in the south.
Just suck it up and legalize gay marriage. It’s not like gays are the ones screwing up the “sanctity of marriage.” Heterosexuals are doing a fine job of that themselves without us.

  3. Honestly who cares? Until DOMA is taken away and we actually get all the rights of marriage then marriage is pointless.
Look it up people, there are like 1,100 rights and we get like 30, maybe. I’m not sure on the exact numbers but we don’t get shit thanks the Bill Clinton.

  4. There will never be true equality as long as society believes that they can only be superior or inferior. It seems to be the belief of the majority, that if blacks, women, gays, etc, etc… “win the fight for equality” that we have become superior simply because we got what we wanted. Equality for all can only be created in a utopia, which, is simply not possible. We can, however, dream of such a time and a place, but just know, there will never be TRUE equality for all.
The only thing that I can do is stand up, proclaim that I’m gay and that I don’t give a damn whether people like it or not and move on with my life.

  5. I’m so proud to live in a country where the majority gets to decide if members of minority groups should be treated equally. How very civilized. How very advanced.
