Must Watch: Obama’s HRC Speech

We usually bring you something funny from the world of YouTube, but today it's a little more serious, but definitely a must watch. We're talking about President Barack Obama's speech to the Human Rights Campaign Saturday night.

The most important thing to come out of it? A promise to "end" Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Let's see what happens!

Check out the speech and let me know what you think.

  1. Haven’t we been promised that DONT ASK, DONT TELL would go away before?! I’ll believe it when we see it! He better be careful with all these “promises” he is making and not fulfilling.

  2. Hear hear, PromisesPromises … Obama talks unbelievably well. Obama gets things done? Not so much (even SNL thinks so), which makes the whole Peace Prize thing even more sketchy. Actions speak much louder than words, Mr. President.

  3. I’m glad Manhuntdaily posted something about the president’s speech, but gods forbid we dont put Hercules magazine and Mario Costa first, cause then we’d lose our priorities.

  4. You gotta give him some credit, he can’t snap his fingers and make things happen there is a rather LARGE faction that isn’t giving him an inch.

  5. WestAtlBear if you base our government on an SNL skit your priorities are screwed…I agree with Leo he can’t snap his fingers and all is right with the gay community. All you have to do is look at the health care debate to see how much hell he’s going thru to try and get things done. He’s only been in office nine months dealing with two wars and well as an international financial meltdown. No presodent with that much on his plate is going to get things done as quick as we want.

  7. you guys dont realize that he has the strongest mandate, controlling the white house and both houses of Congress. He can actually with a snap of a finger make it happen. He chooses not to, but feeds you lies not to alienate the more conservative constituents. Face it, we’ve become second class citizens, and our rights take always the backseat.

  9. I look at all the profiles on Manhunt that have a racial qualifier in them. It makes me wonder how we can try to equate our rights with civil rights, when there is so much prejudice in our gay community.

  11. I have no doubt whatsoever to the President’s commitment to LGBT equality: have NO doubt, this speech will be used by every opponent of our rights against him in his bid for reelection. And Pres. Obama knows it.

  12. bing, he may have a strong mandate controlling the White House and both houses of congress but he also has like ben_cackles said an opposition like every conservative nut job in the country like the ones still following Sarah Palin. The religious right would love nothing more than to use this as a call to action. We as a community need to have more patience…on another note I also have to agree with Radc as well I see so many profiles on this site that say “_______only, but it’s just my preference” There aren’t to many people in this country that are a pure blooded anything, myself included. I may use other qualifiers on what I’m looking for but race would never be one of them.

  13. daddycentaur, when you have a majority in Congress the President can pass legislation with so much ease. Bush has passed legislation even when Democrats controlled the Senate. Republicans have an opposite agenda, of course they’re going to bark at every Obama move, they’re suppose to, thats how democracy works. That should be no reason to stop passing a law about our rights.
We as a community should NOT have more patience, come midelections, democrats would lose majority and we all know once Republicans are in, the gays have no chance.
Radc, “all men are created equal” except for gays ? Civil rights was based on this truth and not on what you’re attracted to sexually.

  14. Bing has a point, partially. The community has sat around for far too long waiting for someone else to fight our battles. No one man with his “promises” can make a big change like this. Sure he has the power to, just as the next Pres after him would have the power to undo. I think what Obama is doing is correct, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and DOMA need to be acts of Congress to be repealed. It should be accomplished by legislation not decree.
Where our community comes in is our activism and encouraging other to get out the vote to elect other politicians who support our community. In the city which I live, the local gay club will be packed to the gills on Friday but the civils rights march the next day will be attended by only a few. That doesn’t sound like a group thats ready to fight for their rights.

  15. does not matter if you have Majority in Congress, if they are not going to vote for it, its not going to Happen
