Hillary Clinton: Supreme Court Justice?

Hillary_clinton-1

As Justice John Paul Stevens retires from the Supreme Court, don't get your hopes up that Hillary Clinton will be filling his vacant seat. Rumors began swirling this morning that the former first lady was mentioned as a potential nominee, but they were quickly shot down by the White House.

"The President thinks Secretary Clinton is doing an excellent job as Secretary of State and wants her to remain in that position," said spokesman Tommy Vietor. Several folks were pumped at the possibility of Clinton being appointed, so I have to ask–how do you feel about the squashed rumors?

  1. I agree that she is doing a great job as Secretary of State, and while she would be a good ally in the SCOTUS, I thing we need to get someone with her ideals and record but who is younger and can stay on the court longer. Hillary is what, 60-ish? We need some young blood there, someone who will stay for quite a while and can make a long-term impace.

  2. Actually, though I was an enthusiastic supporter of Obama, starting in 2004, I wouldn’t mind seeing Hillary challenge him again for the nomination as President next year. I might prefer her this time around, in that Obama really has moved too far to the left, and I would prefer the more centrist Clinton philosphy that her husband espoused during the 90’s. I am kind of disappointed in the Obama presidency, and I know I am not alone in that feeling, even though I was one of his greatest champions.

  3. As Secretary of State Hillary is kicking some serious ass … I must admit that she would do good no matter where she went … I still would have loved to have seen as President … I have to admit that Obama is doing the best he can with the pour situtation he inheirited … People need to understand the state of the country when he got it … “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and Obama’s work so far is holding to the campaign promises he made … not every one likes it but it is better than where we were this time 2 yrs ago … so should the American people decide not to back Obama in 2012 … Then perhaps Hillary in 2012

  4. I think Hillary is doing outstanding job as Secretary of State and with all that is happening on the World stage I do not think it would be wise 4 President Obama 2 upset the apple cart by nominating the Secretary of State 2 the U.S Supreme Court. Although She would make a outstanding Justice Hillary contribution & desires are more suitable for the world stage … Need we not forget there is another Clinton who is just as qualified and will do outstanding as a Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court .

  5. Are they (the rumor mongers) certain that it was THIS Clinton that they were talking about? I think Bill would make a great SCOTUS justice…

  6. This rumor would never come to fruition. It’s common knowledge that Obama’s not a fan of Clinton, and seems to be very threatened by her. While she’d likely prove to be an outstanding US Supreme Court justice, I hardly think he’d present her for a position where she could be so prominent for the rest of her life.

  7. Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be interested in this position, as qualified as she is. With the current makeup of the supreme court, she’d spend much of it writing dissents on important cases. Unless Scalia or Thomas retire or croak (not likely) the cabal on the right are pretty young. Roberts, is young, Alito (who creeps me out) is young and Kennedy shows no signs of wanting to step down. Hillary likes to be in the middle of doing things that make a difference. Sitting there in the minority would drive her up the wall. And to the poster who thought Obama is more left leaning than Clinton, there’s no empirical evidence to support that contention. If anything Obama has been overly cautious in trying to govern from the center.

  8. Hilary needs to be president. Although if Barack were smart he would appoint here to make sure she doesn’t try and run against him in the next election. Hilary is brilliant and there is nobody in politics that I admire more.

  9. Im very happy that she is NOT being considered although she probably wishes she was since she will have to look for a new job in 2012.
