Hell To The No: ABC Does Modern Offensive Stereotypes

ABC, Modern Family, Stereotype

Modern Family is a brand new ABC comedy set to premiere on September 23rd (a day before my birthday, in case you're wondering). You shouldn't watch it, because from what I've heard… it should be canceled immediately. In fact, I'm not even sure why they're putting this crap on television.

The show features a gay couple with fabulous decorating skills who adopt an Asian baby. One half of the couple is a "chubby chaser", so he force-feeds his husband. Isn't that hilarious? Answer: very unlikely. Read more about this atrocity on Pam's House Blend.

  1. Oh come on, it looks hilarious. Stop being such a pussy. Everyone is to up tight these days. If you get offended at this then you shouldn’t watch family guy, simpsons, or any other of those shows.

  2. looks stupid. bad stereotypes don’t help anyone, they just keep those stereotypes in place. boycott.

  3. I’m glad that is not my family or else I would off myself. Or, at the very least, never go home for Thanksgiving.

  4. On the other hand, how the hell often do you see a gay couple portrayed on TV that isn’t either a pair of bears or a couple of slim young twinks? Plus, the gay couple adopted a child. At least they’re doing something interesting for a change…

  5. I’ve seen the pilot I was also invited, i like it a lot. I thought it was very well handled, and suspect that there a couple of gay writers in the writing staff.
Of course the chubby chaser boyfriend was not all that off. I had a boy make me hit the gym, cause he liked me but not in my current body, he said, i had a lot of potential, I did live up to the potential and quickly dumped him after he made me get hot enough to land better guys.
so this is the same situation in reverse.

  6. Dewitt!! We share the same birthday, if I’m reading you right. Mine is also the day after the 23rd of September. It’s a bitch being a Libra on the cusp of Virgo, isn’t it…
Haven’t seen the pilot, so I can’t comment on it. However, I do remember another series (don’t remember the name of it) with a gay couple and an adult daughter who eloped. Hubby’s family was staunch Irish Roman Catholic and owned a bar. Didn’t last more than a season or two, but it was fun while it lasted. Everyone in my family knew which character in the gay couple I was, and which was my hubby.

  7. I’ve seen the pilot, too. It’s got moments, but the whole show is stereotypes and cliches, and that’s where it gets its punchlines. There’s the queeny gay couple, who adopt the Asian baby. There’s the “traditional” family, with an obnoxious boy, and precocious girl, and a bitchy teenage girl, and parents who want to be the kids’ friends rather than parents. And finally, there’s the old guy who somehow married the hot Latina wife. So, you got your queeny gay jokes, your annoying kids jokes, your embarrassing parents jokes, your old unhip guy jokes and your English-as-a-second-language jokes. Laugh away as hilarity ensues!
