Gays Get Passport Equality Too!

U.S Passport

On top of granting some benefits to same-sex couples today, the Obama Administration is also changing courses on another policy that hindered gay couples.

Al and Keith Toney were denied an application to have Keith's passport changed to "Keith Toney" by the State Department. But on Monday a letter came advising them that the policy had changed and they could travel as a married couple after all!

The Toneys released a statement which read in part, “We’re thrilled that we will no longer have to worry about being interrogated when we go through airport security, or anywhere else outside of the US simply because of a discrepancy in my legal identification documents,‘’ Keith Toney said in a statement.

They still have a long way to go, but small steps are appreciated.

  1. Wow, President Obama must really love gay people. Yes, more than 250 gays and lesbians have been thrown out of the military since he became President, and his administration submitted a brief to the Supreme Court explaining why getting rid of the gays protects our military. Yes, legally married couples have virtually no Federal rights and no State rights if they leave home, and his administration said heterosexual couples should receive special rights because they are heterosexual. But at least Keith Toney won’t be delayed in the airport anymore.
Wow, he’s the best President ever.
And I’m sure that it won’t be much longer before George Bush in blackface gets someone over to my apartment to help me remove the knives from my back.

  2. DOMA Stays, Don’t Ask, Don’t tell Stays…homophobia is alive and well in America and Pres Osama is the Commander and Chief of it. Aren’t you all glad you voted for him and he’s delivering on all his promises to the gay community? SUCKERS!

  3. The man has been president for only five months. I think anyone who has a job that has changing deadlines can see his challenge. I have tasks that are due daily, weekly, and monthly – and I think anyone in the same situation would agree that anything without a deadline get pushed and pushed and pushed. I think his recent announcements about some benefits for same-sex partners of federal employees and overturning DOMA are kind of like me finding something at the bottom of my inbox with no time to take care of it. You take the step forward that time allows to let whoever is on the other end of the project know you are still aware and plan to complete it…but then get back to everything that is due.
I feel like I am just rambling now, and that might be the case, but my point is this: He’s not the best president we’ll ever have, but he better than the president we had. Stay visible and keep your voices loud…he’ll get there.
