Gay Parenting: This Kid Is All Right

Zach Wahls is my new favorite person right now. You may have seen a clip of this nineteen year-old student speaking in front of the Iowa House of Representatives, as he came to oppose a measure that would end same-sex marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships in Iowa.

You see, Zach was raised by two mothers. He turned out pretty damn okay, and that’s essentially his message–the sexuality of your parents doesn’t have any negative effect on a child’s character. He’s delivered his tale beyond the podium, doing follow-up interviews for everything from CBS News to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And now he’s the face of the HRC’s latest campaign We’re All Right, in which kids of LGBT parents speak out and tell their stories.

Long story short? This kid isn’t just all right. He’s fucking awesome. On any other day, we’d end this post with a lewd comment about Zach’s general level of attractiveness, but we have far too much respect for him to go down that road.

  1. I believe he did an amazing thing, standing up for his parents, his family, and for the rest of us…Hopefully, other children raised by gay parents can come forward with their testimony, saying that they are doing fine and are living as full-functioning adults, no traumas…as well as anybody who has had a positive experience with some gay family member or friend.

  2. I’m going to go there, he’s incredibly attractive (personality, more than face/body).. HOT!

  3. Now, let’s compare Zach to Mike Huckabee’s kids, including the son who tortured and killed a dog while he was a summer camp counselor. Or any of Sarah Palin’s kids… just pick one.
