Finally, the Trailer for “Diana”

As the headline above suggests, here’s the trailer for the new biopic, Diana, starring Naomi Watts:

Isn’t it exciting? I mean, this one, it’s got everything: big budget sets, hair, cars, paparazzi montages, jewels, servants, titles, stern men in suits, shopping… And frankly, how long has it been since we’ve had a quality royal themed biopic? You know what? No matter how long it’s been, the answer is always “too long”. There’s nothing quite like a quality dramatic reconstruction of life as a member of the royal family because, aside from the absurdity and escapism they provide, with only a few exceptions, most of the time they’re so dreadfully “daytime TV” that they’re masochistic train-wrecks that can be enjoyed for years to come. I mean, would The Queen really have done so well without Helen Mirren and maybe Michael Sheen? Would it REALLY? No, come on… Put your diva worship gland on hold and really think about it. See? Not SO great.

Still, it doesn’t really matter how good these royal biopics are, it only matters that we pay attention. Because, after all, royalty itself only really exists because we pay attention. It’s the same kind of thing as Ann Coulter and Kim Kardashian and the Westboro Baptist Church. If we stopped thinking about and reacting to these weird, toxic cultural entities they’d cease to be commercially viable and would have to make money some other way. Like by being quiet and filing things.

But people love the royals, and now there’s William and Kate’s new kid, so it’s probably going to go on forever. That being said, I will totally see this movie because it’s always interesting to sit in one of those big comfortable cinema chairs with a bag of vitamin rich gummi fruit snacks and watch Naomi Watts keep the tears at bay for long enough to play a character on screen. I kid, she’s great as well. Everyone’s great.

Charley Flynn.

  1. Exciting? Not really… Have we not seen it all already? In every magazine and website. How much more will the media/consumer milk it from Diana and her spawn?
E.G. the royal brat and the camping out of the media for 2 weeks in front of a clinic for the headline”Woman has given birth”

Besides, Naomi Watts is to short and is wearing a really bad wig.
