Family Guy Creator Confirms Stewie’s Sexuality

Though it's not exactly any surprise, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has finally confirmed that his character Stewie Griffin is gay. Well, sort of. In an interview with Playboy magazine, he revealed, "Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual… He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation."

MacFarlane also mentioned an episode which almost went into production, featuring Stewie traveling back in time to erase the passage in Leviticus that reads: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination." Ultimately, they made the final decision to keep the character's sexuality vague, given that he's only a one-year old.

Now with all this said, what do we make of it? I've always thought the Stewie "gay" jokes were a bit stereotypical and predictable, but it's hard to take it seriously since it's a cartoon and… well, a baby. Do you consider the makers of Family Guy to be for us or against us?

  1. I’m hoping, since they exagerate everyone else’s character in the show to the point of ridiculousness, that people will realize stewies ‘stereotypical’ behaviour is not how everyone in the world is too.
At least Seth macfarlene makes fun of gays and straights in his shows, whereas we just learned kevin smith won’t even go for it

  2. Absolutely for us. C’mon – not EVERY gay joke is said out of spite or hatred or ignorance. How repressed are we, people?
And hey – Kevin Smith is ALSO on our side. He’s been very clear in the past that he’s in support of LGBT rights, and that he won’t write characters about it is a creative decision, not a political one. Let’s grow up!!

  3. Well since the show has never made fun of red neck conservative hicks or Christians, I would have to say the show is extremely anti-gay.
    (Note: sarcasm)

  4. Anyone who would take ANYTHING said on “Family Guy” seriously is an idiot. And who the hell is Kevin Smith?

  5. Actually,TC,the show has devoted episodes lampooning rednecks and Christian teachings.Meg,the daughter ,became a self ritious bible beater, and Brian, the dog(dog/god,get it?)set her straight on how bogus it all was.It was funny.

  6. I love american dad for the gay jokes more so than family guy. The couple across the street are hilarious in my opinion and I laugh my ass off.

  7. Honestly, I’m sure that he’s for us. After all, he makes fun of just about everyone. Kind of like Lisa Lampanelli. She makes fun, insults, and laughs at everyone, but it’s all out of love for them.
