Drawn To You: Paul DeFlorian

Embracing your imperfections isn’t an easy thing to do, and this is especially true within the art world. If you’ve ever shown your work in a gallery setting, you know exactly what I’m talking about! As you’re standing there eavesdropping on the crowd, you can clearly hear a snooty insider criticizing your pieces or rolling their eyes at any perceived “flaw”.

And that’s what I find so refreshing about Paul DeFlorian‘s paintings and drawings. Stylistically, he’s all over the place, jumping from photorealistic depictions to less controlled compositions. Yet when you see photos of his pieces hanging next to one another? It’s obvious there’s an intentional aspect to his messiness and occasional inconsistency.

Whether you like his style or not, you can’t deny this guy has a clear vision of how his work should be perceived. He’s not just slapping half-naked dudes on a canvas and letting the paint drip down in a sloppy fashion. Everything is carefully thought out beforehand, right down to the so-called “imperfections”.

  1. Cool – love looking at artists’ work… even though I’m not ‘artsy’ and wishing for even an ounce of their creativity.

  2. Dude kind of sucks. That “my cell phone is on vibrate” looks like something out of my high school art class.

  3. Just discovered this Feature !
