Colin Powell Supports DADT Repeal

Colin Powell

Talk about switch-hitting. After his opposition to letting gays serve in the military helped our country adopt the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, retired Army General Colin Powell has stepped out in support of repealing the law. "Attitudes and circumstances have changed," he said, citing the "acceptance of gays and lesbians in society" as one of his driving reasons for ending the ban.

"If the chiefs and commanders are comfortable with moving to change the policy," Powell said, "then I support it." Polls have shown that more than half of Americans are in support of the change, and it seems as if we're inching closer and closer to this huge step in equal rights. How long do you think it'll be before the repeal is finally approved?

  1. he needs to put his money where his mouth is and donate to the pro-DADT repeal gay groups.
otherwise he is just a politician telling people what they want to hear.
action and money speaks louder than words

  2. that’s all they all are…. politicians telling people what they want to hear.
at least he’s saying something though.

  3. I might be n the minority on this but don’t ask don’t tell never did & still does not bother me ( nor does the whole gay marriage issue ) but having said that’ I am still strong believer in the notion in which this Country was built upon the rights 2 live and breath free !!! America is still the greatest Country on the face of this earth in spite of all of our difficulties there is no where else that I would rather live. Don’t ask don’t tell will get repealed and maybe someday Men & Woman will be able 2 marry whom ever & where ever they chose in what is still the GREATEST COUNTRY on the face of this EARTH !!! BTW ( as I am commenting on this blog ) CNN announced that they ( the pentagon ) will conduct a year long review on D.A.D.T LOL The GREATEST COUNTRY on the face of this EARTH often drags it feet with countless reviews, hearing’s only 2 do nothing ! Just look at the health care ……………

  4. The really ironic thing about DADT is that it was not too many years ago it was believed that to have blacks and women serving in the military would also effect moral. The whole moral argument is so lame. If a superior officer orders a straight boy to shower with a bunch of gay men while they were engaging in sex then the straight boy will obey. The military is all about stripping away individual freedoms and rights. To be in the military is to do as you are told. Therefore if the homophobic soldiers are told to do as ordered then they do as ordered and get over it.
Another point that the POLS do not comment on is the simple fact that a gay man is less likely to molest another man than a straight man is likely to molest a woman. Gay men are conditioned to be discrete around other people. And being afraid to be around a gay man just because he is gay is nothing less than cowardly.

  5. As long as it is repealed by 2013 I will be happy, that is when I plan on becoming an Officer which is step two in my 14 year plan leading to the Presidency.

  6. Oh sure, NOW you change your mind, after the many gay linguists who could have decoded messages and saved lives were drummed out of the service. Hypocrite!!!!!!
