Balloon Boy Story Gets Popped

Balloon Boy, "we did this for the show", family, Heene family, Colorado, attic, video, interview, CNN, Falcon, Wife Swap, hoax

By now, you've probably already heard about "Balloon Boy", the six year-old child who was thought to have floated off on a saucer-like balloon. You've also probably heard that they found him in the family's attic. But have you seen the video where the so-called Balloon Boy tells his parents, "You guys said that we did this for the show"?

The same Americans who were previously worried sick for this boy's life are now shouting, "Hoax! Hoax!" Among all the controversy, the father continues to claim that it wasn't a hoax, insisting that his son misinterpreted the reporter's question.

Perhaps I have no heart, but I still don't get why any of this is news in the first place. After they found the kid in the attic, this story should have been dead. While I have my fingers crossed that this is the news-channel equivalent of a twenty-four hour virus, I highly doubt this family will let it die that quickly. I mean, you've also probably heard that they were on Wife Swap. Twice.

UPDATE: So much for this not being a hoax. If you're going to lie, why the hell would you make a home movie that proves you're lying?

  1. I agree. What constitutes NEWS in our country now is a joke. It’s all tabloidy entertainment. Walter Cronkite continues to roll over in his grave.
We have 2 wars going on — and back on the homefront — a recession and health care debate. But alas, the news channels are all about Balloon Boy. RIDIC!

  2. Dewitt, you say….
Perhaps I have no heart, but I still don’t get why any of this is news in the first place.
Well besides agreeing with you perhaps I have no heart as well. Why is this taking up space on this otherwise wonderful blog? How does this relate to gay people? Or at least fans on ManHunt?

  3. I wanted to believe this was an innocent misunderstanding, but after seeing the live interviews last night and this morning, so many things just didn’t seem quite right. Ironically, I think the story would probably be dead already if people didn’t think it was a hoax.
Incidentally, the story itself may not be prime Manhunt material, but am I the only one who thinks the dad is totally warranting a Secret Sex?

  4. ima gonna let you finish ballon boy. I just wanna say that Anne Frank had one of the best hiding spaced EVER.

  5. The father is seeking fame at all costs… After the TLC refused to give him a show, he decided to go with the hoax. He even called the TV station demanding them to bring helicopter. This shows how sick the society is. He should be charged with misdemeanor class A.
HE is lucky that he is living in USA. You can’t pull these crap in other countries, you will go straight to jail if you are lucky (from being killed by special forces).

  6. This ought to make Nancy Grace happy; now she’s got a week or two worth of shows to blast a couple of “abusive parents”. Real justice would be putting that bitch in a runaway balloon!
