You might know Scotty Rage better as the real-life partner of gay porn star Charlie Harding. As a serodiscordant couple, they’ve attempted to fight stigma by openly discussing how to make love work when one partner’s HIV-positive and the other is HIV-negative. Scotty appeared in a non-sexual role for Charlie’s bottoming debut and, not so long after, he was seen creepily peeking through the window at Colby Jansen in a brief cameo for MEN.COM‘s “Daddy’s Club”.
(He was also the designer of the controversial “Condoms are for pussies“ t-shirt that Mike Dozer was spotted wearing months before his shocking statutory rape arrest… But for the sake of this post, I am going to pretend that never happened and focus on his onscreen performance.)
Scotty has proven himself to be just as verbal as Harding, perfectly capable of assuming the “daddy” role when the camera starts to roll. This is a gaping hole in condom theory. If this report is true, then it introduces a paradox into all condom-related studies of STI transmission via anal intercourse, gay or straight. Those studies are contingent on the “proper use” of condoms for their effectiveness, but if something has never been tested for use in an application, no standard for proper use technically exists. At the same time, there’s enough empirical proof of their usefulness to bury a person in latex.
I can only hope that this report inspires condom manufacturers to release a new generation of prophylactics designed specifically for anal. The poly- type condoms were a good start, but something new is always nice.
