Support For Marriage Equality At An All-Time High

Here’s a drop of good news for your Tuesday afternoon! According to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, fifty-eight percent of Americans believe that it should be legal for gay and lesbian couples to get married, with sixty-four percent stating that the issue should be decided for all states on the basis of the US constitution. Unfortunately, nearly a quarter of Americans still believe that we choose our sexuality, but let’s put things into perspective—sixty-four percent believe we’re born just the way we are… Um, thanks Lady Gaga?

You can read more about the poll here. The general gist is that the majority is on our side, wherever it counts.

  1. So basically what you’re telling me is that old republicans (Shocking) are stopping progress… I personally don’t believe in marriage but that doesn’t stop me from saying that 2 people in love can’t.

  2. Luckily, the percentage of those old republicans that deny support is lowering.

On the other hand, they might just be dying. >.> <.<

  3. The generational divide on this issue is always amazing to me–how older folks, in general, can just be so adamantly opposed to gay marriage and how current teens are mostly like, “well, duh, why not?” I love that even a majority of younger Republicans now support same-sex marriage. The future is coming, Tea Baggers, and it’s coming for you.

  4. You know the LGBT Rights movement has been hijacked by heteronormative folk when their top priority is to be able to engage in the heterosexual world’s millennia old contractual arrangements. If you’re not in the US Bible Belt then there’s nothing shocking about this.
