So How About That Nobel Peace Prize?

President Barack Obama

Have you heard of this guy named Barack Obama? He's apparently being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". Some people are saying that nine months of the presidency isn't enough time for him to receive such an award. Other people are calling those people racists. Most people are kind of shocked. Where do you stand?

  1. ….it could be just America at it again to build the hero/legend thing. You know, “First black President to be awarded… blah, blah, blah… Would love to see a picture of his cock, bet its big, Lucky Michelle!!!

  2. I was shock just because I ( agree with Matt ) 2 soon . I hope it inspire’s the president 2 work even harder in making this world a better place not just 4 Americans but all mankind………

  3. Although I tend to agree a little bit with TC, lets not lose site of the fact the the Nobel Peace Prize committee takes this very seriously and had what they felt was a very good reason for this award. When the naysayers are on this committee then there opinion will matter. Until then lets not be so mean spirited and blame Obama. It was not his decision.

  4. I know George Bush spent an awful lot of Money while he was in Office for 8 long years, but, for goodness sake, “BIG~O” has only been in Office 9 Months, and has already Spent THREE~TIMES as much MONEY!!
Now, WHO do YOU think has to Pay all of this Stupid Stemilus Money Back…This is Probly WHY they gave “BIG~O” the Nobel Peace Prize….

  5. Ah, umh, James…. Stimulus not Stemilus. Since you called it “this Stupid Stemilus” does that make you stupid?
Aside from that this award was awarded to Barack Obama not the Presidency. He campaigned for two years for the reduction of nuclear power in this world. His existence did not start on inauguration day. The amount of money Obama has spent did not factor into the decision of the committee to award the prize to him. Your bigotry is showing.

  6. Today, I got an OSCAR! so excited. since everyone is getting things without merit now, look for a Grammy, Emmy, Pulitizer, etc in your mail tomorrow!
And ps — before you get all whiney on my ass, I voted for the dude. But let him prove himself first before giving him such honors.

  7. Congratulations on your OSCAR. You sound like a drama queen so I am sure it is well deserved. I still say that the Nobel Committee is far better of determining his worth then you for this prize.

  8. Two points: 1)the nominations were due in the first of February, just a week or two after the inauguration (he didn’t accomplish that much in such a short time) and 2)watch the opening bit from last week’s SNL; there’s a lot of truth in comedy, which is a good word to describe this presidency.

  9. Jeremy, you (Jeremy) could be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. It has nothing to do with Obama and his presidency. Let me say this differently, you do not have to be president to win the prize. So forget the relationship between his nomination and his inauguration.

  10. Come on wrestle…
The two other above posters are kinda douche-y, but previous opinions hold merit. The nomination was made no later than two weeks after he took office.
His tenure as a senator was not outstanding or spectacular. That certainly wasn’t enough. He may prove to be a spectacular contribution to humanity, but that’s a decision to be made in a decade or more when it can be determined if he did make a difference.
It is difficult to suggest this presentation was made for pure merit.
And he has campaigned against nuclear arsenals, not nuclear power.

  11. As a liberal Democrat who voted for Obama, I have to say this was a crock of shit. An international award is given because someone had a good PR campaign? Seriously, what has Obama done – either two weeks into his Presidency or nine months – that warrants receiving the Nobel Peace Prize? Talk about style over substance: Obama is the Paris Hilton of Presidents, famous for doing absolutely nothing of merit but looking good while not doing it.

  12. Right on, Tommmy Marx!
And Wrestle – you seriously need to get laid dude – so serious.
Sad that you cannot separate your love of Obama for this unjust award.
Like Tommy and I both said — we voted for Barack. So we agree he was the right person for the job. But he didn’t deserve this honor. If Nobel committee has changed the rules now to grant awards to MAYBE ACHIEVEMENTS in the FUTURE, then wow…that’s crazy!

  13. PEOPLE WHAT DO YOU N O T GET!?!?!?!??!?!? He had a life before his presidency. and its not all about his campaigning to reduce nuclear arsenals
The committee said it honored Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
Mean while the committee sent out its solicitation for nominations last September, two months before Obama was elected president.
The Award was given to him UNANIMOUSLY by the noble award committee that has something like 172 people and 33 organization! Do you think they all had a stupid attack!?!?!??! Let us all pull the ice dildos out of our asses and just be honored that we get a man like this after that joke we had for 8 years

  14. Here are the current results of a CNN.com poll. The majority of the nearly half-million polled believe award was unjust.
Was Barack Obama a good choice for Nobel Peace Prize?
    Yes = 44% = 199260 votes
    No = 56% = 254707
    Total Votes: 453967

  15. I’m with Wrestle. Americans continue to show their stupidity and arrogance. I do not know the criteria for a Nobel Peace Prize. I do not know who all was nominated. I do not know why Barack Obama stood out. However, I do know, as Wrestle so eloquently put it This is an award for Barack Obama, not his Presidency. Barack Obama did not magically appear on inauguration day. So obviously, it’s NOT too soon for him to have received the prize since the basis of him receiving it was NOT his past presidency. So stupid, arrogant Americans … ask yourselves “What exactly qualified him above all others for this prize?”

  16. Previous Nobel prize winners have been Yaser Arafat, El Baradei, and exPresident Carter…This tells you all. The prize is worth nothing!

  17. Universal Potentate, thanks for being the only person here to get my point.
Eh, you need to educate yourself on the requirements to receive the award. How can you be critical of something you clearly know nothing about, and…
Erik, I got laid last night (what a dumb ass remark). Sorry to disappoint you.

  18. have you noticed that most of the rest of the world is ECSTATIC over the the fact that he won and only americans (which i am one) Seem to be having a problem with it? How screwed up is that

  19. people who think Barack did anything before he got in the White House are ridiculous.
latest poll update — widening results…
Was Barack Obama a good choice for Nobel Peace Prize?
    Yes 43% 232560
    No 57% 305930
    Total Votes: 538490

  20. Hey barackshouldturnitdown, would you turn down $1 millions? How ungracious would that make our president? The world is watching while stupid Americans self destruct. Don’t be part of it.
Btw, was that poll done by the Fixed News Network?

  21. I liked this reaction quote form a former, more-deserving winner:
“Who? What? So fast?” said Lech Walesa, former president of Poland and a Nobel laureate himself.
“Well, there hasn’t been any contribution to peace yet. He’s proposing things, he’s initiating things, but he is yet to deliver.”

  22. Him becoming President did speak volumes for millions of people. The fact a black man became president was great. If he hasn’t been in office long enough to warrant this award then he hasn’t been in office long enough to clean up the past 8 years worth of problems, but we as a people have demanded that of him. If he is such a horrible President maybe the next time we will elect Sarah Palin and all WILL become right in the world.

  23. I’m African-American and I totally do not think it is racists to not give the man a Nobel Prize. His intentions are geared towards peace and smoothing over international relations, but overall I Don’t think he has accomplished much… yet… to deserve it.

  24. I think a prize should only be awarded for achievement, not effort. It remains to be seen whether his ‘efforts’ are worth anything.

  25. THIS JUST IN>…
Breaking News BULLETIN — PRESIDENT OBAMA TO END “DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL” POLICY.
    for that…he deserves commendation!

  26. If some of us would followed his effort towards equality, peace and democracy worldwide then we will understand what he has accomplished and what he stands for.
May be if we would spent more time listening for his advocacy against war in Iraq (after sept 11), his speech in Germany during election campaign and even the speech he gave in Cairo then we would know where he stands towards social justice.
If we would have more time in day to spend in social and political news instead of being stuck in the mirror putting our makeups and lipsticks then we would have acknoledge his effort on nuclear non proliferation and scraping of US missle defense in eastern Europe for the exchange of peaceful world.
If we would spend more time educating ourselves, get involved in our communities, combat climate change, understanding the world, and making a positive influence in our society; then we will stop being so ignorant and arrogant and we will become more supportive and and make this world a better place.
But some of us just do not get it, and probably we will never get it because we choose to spend our time watching Jon and Kate, or Real housewives, or Cougar town, or searching the net day and night looking to find pictures of Robert Partinson or Brad Pitt naked instead of educating ourselves and put our mind where it was supposed to be in the first place.
    Congratulation pres Obama.

  27. tresqboy’s rant was too long
i think it’s fair to say that the MAJORITY think it was too soon for him to win such a honor.
but hey, congrats OBAMA — now get back to work.

  28. I was having my period last night, but I didn’t mean to cause any harm. But I wanted to shed some “light”.

  29. Tresqboy: see the above posts about his nomination coming 14 days after the inauguration. And Buren47240: you quote a line about “international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”; taking into account what I pointed out to Tresqboy, his only “international” appearance during the campaign was at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany (a strange place to go when you’re running for an American political office). Other than that, he was an ineffective junior senator with only two years experience who voted “present” instead of “yay” or “nay” on congressional bills over 90% of the time. He also comes from a city that has one of the most corrupt political histories in the country. I don’t see any “international diplomacy” in his past experience.

  30. Congratulation Obama, the rest of you bitter Queen should have a bitter Party, because if any of you Bitter bitches won it, I know you would take it, What have you done for the Community beside being a Whiner
