Whitney Houston’s Final Work Has A Trailer

Here’s the spot for Sparkle. It’s Whitney Houston’s last film, and she plays a former singer whose daughters form a girl group in the 1960s.Watch it after the jump.

Sad, huh? Despite the fact that her character named her daughter “Sparkle”, the girl group’s name is apparently “Sister & Her Sisters” (stop), and there’s a black couple spousal abuse storyline (black men have GOT to be sick of constantly being portrayed as always using women as punching bags) – I’d probably see it. It’s Whitney! And she’s gone, so we only have her videos, songs, and movies to remember her by. I refuse to remember Whitney via Bobby Brown’s continued existence.

Some of you may be like “eh” but know this – it can’t be as bad as Glitter.

  1. Love and miss Whitney and still sad about her passing and mad at her staff who let it happen (yeh, I know, she made her own “bed”), but no thanks on Jordin Sparks (and putting someone named Sparks in a movie called “Sparkle”?  Kinda weird).  I’ll wait for the DVD.  Hope there’s some redeeming vocals from Whitney in the film at least.

  2. I think from this trailer that it WILL be far superior than “Glitter”!!!
    HANDS DOWN!

  3. o to glamorize drug use……she was the epitome of drug use……hope she can now make peace with the demons she could never resolve on earth…..

  4.  No one would ever ever let them do it to themselves… Its called an addiction… I’m sure at least 90% of smokers wish they could quit, but can’t… I believe she got into something she just couldn’t handle…

  5. completely off the subject, but did anyone watch price is right today? his name was gregory——hey dewitt, get in touch w/ that guy—from Canada, came to LA to have fun—-gregory, if you’re reading this, i will do anything for/to/with you

  6. This is a remake, I forget when but it was the inspiration for Dreamgirls. There is a character named Effie in this too.

  7. Looks like Dream Girls WITHOUT the Music/Songs/Talent–can’t wait to miss this one-with or without Whitney.I saw Whitney over 20 years ago on a bill in Australia with Frank Sinatra & Peter Allen–she was off her face then and Peter walked all over them-he was the star !

  8. A shameless way to plug and hype what is probably a terrible film using the death of Houston. Let’s face it: Whitney’s golden era was the 80s-early 90s. This film will probably get “nice” reviews only because Houston has passed. Other than that, it’ll just be like Houston’s career (post early 90s) and personal life: A crash and burn.

  9. I am a big fan of Jordin Sparks and I know she will be great in this. I can’t wait to see it. 🙂

  10. Wow. Some bitter queens here.

First, Sparkle is a remake of a 1976 film that was loosely inspired by The Supremes and, thus, was about 5 years before Dreamgirls opened on Broadway.

Second, this actually looks like it might be a good film (possibly much better than the practically unwatchable film version of Dreamgirls).

Third, it looks like this might be Whitney’s best acting performance, actually inhabiting a character rather than just knowing her lines and hitting her marks as she did in her earlier films (though she was always a charismatic presence in her films).
