Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: Fallen Diva Edition

The four contestants in this week’s Wild Card round have been through a lot. From failed singles to drug problems, these divas are desperately making an attempt to paw their way back to the top of the charts. One of them has had it so rough, she hasn’t even released her debut album! But she keeps on trying, despite all the setbacks…

I know, I know! Should we really be crying for a bunch of semi-troubled female pop stars? We’ve got our own problems to deal with, and their lives can’t be that difficult. Perhaps we should shed a few tears into our morning coffee, as they luxuriate by their mansion’s heated pool with a mimosa in hand.

Long story short, it’s not that serious. But when it all comes down to it, only one of these bitches (maybe two) can make it onto our Weekly Top Ten countdown. The participating contestants include Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse and Nicole Scherzinger. Which of these four singers is most deserving of a comeback? Get your votes in before it’s too late!

Mariah Carey – Oh Santa!: While it’s not quite “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, we’ve got to give Mimi credit for attempting to inject some joy into the holiday season. But is it too early to rock out to a Christmas jam? We haven’t even stuffed ourselves with Thanksgiving turkey yet!

Christina Aguilera – But I Am A Good Girl: Holy. Fucking. Yes. If I wasn’t excited about getting dragged to see Burlesque, then I’ve officially been converted to being one of those gays. Forget about what you heard on Bionic. This is a remarkably restrained performance, and it’s single-handedly erased any issues I’ve had with Aguilera’s over-the-top vocals.

Amy Winehouse f/ Quincy Jones – It’s My Party: Is she ruining a classic or breathing new life into it? There’s something wrong about this, but it’s the type of wrongness that put Winehouse on the map in the first place. Personally, I’m loving this! But I can understand how the opinion might be divided…

Nicole Scherzinger – Poison: Face. Fucking. Palm. It’s actually kind of depressing to watch Nicole Scherzinger try to excel beyond her status as The Pussycat Dolls’ lead singer. This time, she’s teamed up with Lady Gaga’s producer RedOne for the most forgettable single of 2010. You got a big voice, girl! Why are you wasting it on shit like this?

  1. Christina swept the competition on this one. Most people will go for Nicole’s single. It’s OK, but not that great. Not even the remixes of Poison got me excited.

  2. Given the options, I voted for Xtina. The Mariah song is nice, but let’s face is seasonal. Nobody will remember it in a few weeks.

  3. So…Mariah, I’m sorry babe you’re trying too hard…let me eat my turkey first.
Amy is doing here thing again…I don’t have a problem with it really.
Nicole…that was just an epic fail.
Christina…oh christina..can’t wait to see that movie 🙂

  4. I like Nicole’s record the best, but the video with her as this pseudo-Lady Gaga sleaze bad girl has no credibility. She seemed like such a nice person on DWTS that this just doesn’t work.

  5. I love the video and song from Nicole. Yes its a little repetative but it’s basically saying I’m a good girl but I also have the ability to kick your ass and be the bad girl that you are afraid of if you fuck with me. It’s an intersting choice for a leading single but yah never know people have lame first singles but rock it out with their album I’m looking forward to it.

  6. Love the Nicole, but I’m looking forward to new and different on the album. Christina, I love you. “But I’m a Good Girl” is fabulous!!! Now, I can’t wait for “Burlesque!” Christina gets my vote, hands down.

  7. Mariah and Amy. Mariah’s new Christmas album is great. Oh Santa is the worst song on it though. Her previous one is a classic.

Amy is genius. I need an album.

Fuck Christina. Shouty bitch with an attitude.
Double fuck Nicole. Just straight up untalented.

  8. Was about to vote for the vile Xtina based on the vocal, but that dancing is just wooden and painful. Nicole is fantastic but CERTAINLY not so on this track/video. Amy, at least she has enough left in her for ONE last single, albeit creaky at best. MARIAH – this is another Christmas classic. And Phil, won’t be remember in a few weeks? It will be Christmas in a few weeks, exactly when it will build momentum. I bet we hear it for years to come as well.

  9. Have you been in a store lately? Christmas is here already.
I’m glad to see Amy back on track hopefully. Nicole is talented but just has bad material.

  10. Oh Santa! for the win! Love Mariah, and this song is fantastic! Nicole just needs to give up on her solo career…like seriously…and like NOW! I saw a preview for Burlesque last night, and Cher looked spectacular, and didn’t realize the “new girl” was Christina until like 2 minutes in when she sang, lmao! Her song is decent, and Amy’s was alright as well, but Mariah’s will be another timeless…I can feel it!

  11. gotta go with Mariah on this one. Its got “christmas classic” written all over it, and deserves a shot.

Xtina’s video is great, but the song is actually pretty bad.

If Amy Winehouse would stop trying to channel Eartha Kitt, she’s be a lot more interesting — this song didn’t work.

And Nicole S? A good GaGa assembly line record, but we’ve got more than enough of those from the Lady herself.

  12. Just saying… Poison reminds me a lot of Toxic… Even with the whole superhero/villain theme while riding the motorcycle. Even the song names are similar…

  13. …Still not understanding everyone’s thing against Christina. I think she’s fantastic, and Bionic is a great album. I play at least one song from the album every day. It’s a feel good album, and she used less acrobatic vocals on the album, which still makes my jaw drop. She’s not a fallen diva, people just don’t know good music/singer/songwriters anymore.

  14. Amy Winehouse is an embarrassing overrated mess. I can just imagine what a tortured time poor Quincy Jones must have had trying to get her lucid for 5 minutes and record this piece of garbage. It’s just sad. 🙁

My vote went to Mariah who is way out in front of this group by leaps and bounds. This is another song that is destined to be another holiday classic that will live on for many years to come.

  15. Agree with MB. Aguilera has incredible vocal capability (Fighter, Lady Marmalade, Beautiful). She’s simply experimenting in the music realm at the moment. 🙂

Anyone who dismisses her needs to take a step back and think before hitting submit.

That said, not really feeling this song. Preferred You Lost Me…but you’re not going to like everything an artist produces. So no worries. Good to see she’s currently dominating this poll, though.

  16. i love amy winehouse SO much, such a talent, but she sounds like a new jersey housewife in this song…prostitutionwhooore!

  17. amys song sounds just like back in black her last abum absolutely beautiful if you loved the album which lasted three years haters one year in the uk before it crossed over warbly or not

  18. woah what a mess that nicole is try singing simple you need a real backup band its been five years you trying to gert a hit i quess pussycat doll cd by next november with popison being redone lol
