Weekly Top Ten: Is Kylie The Song of Summer?

In a not so surprising move, dance-floor diva Kylie Minogue has taken down both Kelly Rowland and Lady Gaga to steal the number one spot on our Weekly Top Ten charts. But will her luck run out now that Gaga’s third single has entered the competition? Stay tuned to find out!

This week also marks the unfortunate exit of Allison Iraheta, M.I.A., Andy Bell and the Wonder Girls. None of them were able to obtain enough votes to stay on the countdown, so they’re headed to the loser’s circle with Wild Card rejects CEO, Diana Vickers and Sky Ferreira.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, grab yourself a hot boy and let me explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (LW – 2, W3): Hmm, I wonder how this song took the number one spot. Could it be the extraordinarily sexy music video, full of writhing underwear-clad bodies? Or is it because this song is fucking awesome?
  2. Lady Gaga f/ Beyonce – Telephone (LW – 3, W13): Gaga pushes herself up one spot, but she’s about to face her greatest competition, also known as “herself”. Can two of her songs survive on the same charts? It’s happened before, and it can happen again.
  3. Kelly Rowland – Commander (LW – 1, W6): Third place! My dear friend Kelendria deserves more love than that. She’s looking fierce as fuck in the video clip. Hell, I might even consider going straight for her…
  4. Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight (LW – 4, W10): Can someone please explain to us why Christina Aguilera didn’t put out “Vanity” as her comeback single? Her first effort is dying down fast, yet it still holds strong in the number four spot.
  5. Katy Perry f/ Snoop Dogg – California Gurls (LW – 5, W4): Though we’re not even on the West Coast, we can’t deny this addictive pop jam. The random guest vocals by Snoop Dogg are just icing on the cake.
  6. Goldfrapp – Alive (LW – 7, W2): Vampires! Leotards! Glitter! Our favorite track from Goldfrapp’s turns out one of our favorite video clips of the year. And it’s kind of the gayest thing we ever seen, which is quite an accomplishment considering that it’s not very gay at all…
  7. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (DEBUT): It’s a miracle that we’ve held back so long from including this on the countdown. The preview of the music video got us so pumped that we just couldn’t wait any longer! Is it time for another Lady Gaga takeover?
  8. Robyn – Dancing On My Own (RETURN): We had a few requests to bring this one back, and who are we to turn them down? It may or may not help that we’re absolutely in love with this song. The theme may be a little sad, but we can’t help moving when it comes through the speakers.
  9. Alexis Jordan – Happiness (WILD CARD): I was humming this jam in the shower this morning, and I nearly slipped and broke my leg due to some spontaneous dance moves. It’s kind of like the “When Love Takes Over” of this year, except it still needs to catch on a little more. Request it to your DJs! Call in to your radio stations! We’ve got to make this one happen…
  10. Natasha Bedingfield – Touch (DEBUT): Natasha embraces an electro-tinged sound for her latest single, and the results are fucking brilliant. Someone needs to turn out a dance remix of this ASAP, because it’s practically begging to live up to its dance-floor potential.

  1. It was really difficult to vote because I like 8 out of the 10 songs and since it’s summer is here, it’s hard to choose from so many divas. My votes this week are for Kylie (the goddess), Goldfrapp and Natasha Bedingfield (can’t have enough of “Touch”).

Suggestion for the Wild Card next week is Pixie Lott’s “Turn it up”, it’s the title track of her album and the fifth single to come out, already a Top 40 hit in the UK and by tomorrow it will be probably higher in the charts.

  2. Voted for both Gaga songs. Gaga is the best there is.

And I love how people think Lady Gaga is copying Vogue just because both videos are in black and white. Why not say she’s copying Single Ladies?

  3. This is probably the hardest group for me to pick from. I love pretty much all of these songs. I went with Kelendria, Robyn, and Natasha. All are great tho!!!

Is it possible to not cut so many this time?

  4. Yeah, it will be best to keep 2 songs for next week and just bring 2 new ones. I voted for Goldfrapp, Robyn and Natasha. So hard to choose them over Kylie and Kelly.

Hos ’bout including “Candy” by cute Brazilian newcomer and rapper Aggro Santos Feat. ex-Pussycat Doll Kymberly Wyatt or “Turn it up” by Pixie Lott.

  5. Yikesm I’m going hetero on music apparently…but come on Katy, east coast girls are where its at!

  6. Thanks for bringing back Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.” I’m still loving “Fembot” too. I can’t wait for her full length to hit!!!
