Weekly Top Ten: Invasion of The Underdogs

One vote! That’s all it took to push Pink ahead of Katy Perry on today’s Weekly Top Ten countdown, after a neck-and-neck showdown to the very end. While Perry held the lead for the duration of the voting process, a few final submissions swayed the final results. And, no, this shit isn’t rigged…

In case you haven’t heard, this week’s edition is all about the underdogs. To make room for the latest entries, we had to say goodbye to Robyn, Enrique Iglesias, Ke$ha and Taio Cruz. We hope you weren’t too attached to any of those songs!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, run your fingers through Josh Monrad‘s curly locks while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

UPDATE: Due to technical difficulties, this went up two days later than expected. Apologies for the inconvenience.

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Pink – Raise Your Glass (LW – 2, W14): There’s only one week left until we retire this song from the charts, and you know the routine by now… Send it out with a bang! This is particularly good timing for Pink. If she were on the charts for any longer, she’d have to face the inevitable reign of Britney Spears.
  2. Katy Perry – Firework (LW – 3, W5): My jaw dropped when I saw Katy Perry in first place. Then my jaw dropped even more when I saw she slipped into second place. Actually, my face hit my palm, because I knew damn well that you’d accuse me of stuffing the ballot. Sure, I may have mentioned her lead on Twitter, but usually that leads to more people voting for her. You can’t blame this on me!
  3. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 1, W4): After topping the charts on last week’s edition, Adele fell victim to the great “Pink vs. Katy” feud of 2010. Now that we’ve ushered in a new year, can we please vote her back to the number one spot? Not that I’m biased or anything…
  4. Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over (LW – 6, W2): I’d love to think this song would appear in a higher position, if it weren’t for the fact that it’s two years old. Florence Welch is astoundingly talented, and it’s nice to see this song getting some attention on our side of the pond. Finally!
  5. Cher – You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me (LW – 4, W7): Fifth place ain’t half bad. Even though Cher’s slipped down another spot, we can rest assured that she’s still in the game. Well, for now at least! If you want to keep her in the game, you’ll have to vote a lot harder in this round.
  6. Cee-Lo Green – Fuck You (LW – 7, W2): Believe it or not, Cee-Lo was only two votes away from defeating Cher. We’re pretty damn impressed by his performance, though it’s not that surprising when you put things into perspective. Duh, this song is fucking awesome.
  7. Dev – Bass Down Low (DEBUT): Can we even call Dev an “underdog” when she’s already appeared on a number one hit? The voice behind Far East Movement’s “Like A G6” storms our charts with her latest solo single. The beat will make you want to get fucked against a wall. Actually, it’ll just make you want to shake your ass, but is there really that much of a difference?
  8. Kerli – Army of Love (DEBUT): Blargh, are we really going to place Kerli against Lady Gaga? Yes, they’re both blonde chicks who make music and wear crazy outfits. But that doesn’t mean they’re the same fucking person. She’s already spoken out against the comparisons, and I’m pretty sure Gaga isn’t interested in targeting the “bubble-goth” market. Just sayin’.
  9. Aiden James – Best Shot (DEBUT): There’s never enough testosterone on these charts. More importantly, there are never enough openly gay artists! Singer-songwriter Aiden James offers up an acoustic pop jam that makes us melt into a pile of mush. Pardon us, we’ll be over here swooning…
  10. jj – Kill Them (DEBUT): Yes, we chose this song over Frankmusik, Natalia Kills and Her Majesty & The Wolves. If anything, it’ll provide some contrast on a countdown traditionally dominated by mainstream dance-pop. Plus, we wanted to represent for the indie nerds! Did anyone else cum at the random Nicki Minaj interview on jj’s mixtape track “Believe”?

  1. im so sick of pink!! i would like to see the scrip on here. their new song “for the first time” is awesome.

  2. There are a couple of new songs that are pretty wicked. I am not sure if a video has been released for them or not:

    1. Fucking Perfect by Pink
    2. Girlfriend In The City by Nelly Furtado
    3. Forgiveness by Sarah McLachlan

    AND WAIT FOR IT……

BRAND NEW ROXETTE SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MARIE IS BACK GENTLEMAN, and in better shape than ever!

“She’s Got Nothing On (But the Radio) by Roxette. Brand new album “Charm School” to be released in February followed by a world tour!

  3. the script is over-rated. those bands had their peak a few years ago, the script is just a reject band that waited until the good bands fell apart and took over the only slot left to seem “good”.

  4. You should try “Howl” by Florence + the Machine. I really wish she released that as a single! It’s a song about just how strong lust can take over a person and make you animal-like. And her voice in it is incredible.

And I’m so happy to see jj on here! They just released an EP recently and I LOVE them. I love indie bands who are really influenced by R&B and hip-hop, especially The xx. I’m dying for them to record a new album already.

But Kanye’s “Monster” definitely SHOULD be on here! Maybe next week, but it’s crazy good. Nicki Minaj just KILLS it. She murders the competition (Kanye, Jay-Z) along the way as well. She really made up for Pink Friday anyways.

  5. I didn’t even see this when it orignally posted on jan. 1st so I am finally voting now.

The choices are awful, though. Katy Perry’s Firework is the only sure thing. I went with Adele also….
