Weekly Top Ten: In Which We’re No Longer Caught In A Bad Romance…

Last week, we pondered whether we should adopt a retirement policy for our Weekly Top Ten charts, as an increasing amount of you became frustrated by the omnipresence of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". Oddly enough, the song was just voted out of the top five, making the conversation practically irrelevant.

However, that doesn't mean we've given up on the idea of kicking out songs for overstaying their welcome. As of today, we will start retiring songs that have been on the charts for more than twenty weeks. I know it seems like a generous amount of time, but these songs deserve to be here if you're still voting for them.

And if you're not voting for them? They'll probably end up like Alicia Keys, Sade, Ke$ha and Peaches. The four artists didn't gain enough support, so you won't be seeing them on the countdown any longer. You also won't be seeing Nicki Minaj or Erykah Badu, as both were eliminated in the Wild Card round.

If you're a Weekly Top Ten virgin, I'll try to explain the rules as best as possible while giving you a rimjob. Each week you'll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you'd like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we'll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week's charts.

Wishing there was a "none of the above" option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it'll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga f/ Beyonce – Telephone (LW – 1, W4): Four weeks on the charts, and three weeks at the top! What will have to happen to knock Gaga off her pedestal? If Britney came off with a new song, would it even have a chance? So many questions!
  2. Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Bittersweet (LW – 7, W2): Though it may still be too soon to call this the next "When Love Takes Over", this song makes us want to jazzercise on the dance floor in shiny-ass outfits. It's potentially gay enough to turn your hot straight friend into a raging cocksucker. Or at least we think it is. Results may vary.
  3. Robyn – Fembot (LW – 2, W3): You know what they say–"once you go tech, you never go back!" The zany Swedish singer is back with her newest single, and she's doing the whole electro-future thing better than anyone else out there. She drops one spot this week, but she's still staying strong against the competition!
  4. Robin Thicke f/ Estelle – Rollacoasta (LW – 8, W2): Watching Growing Pains back in the day, did you ever think to yourself, "Gee, Alan Thicke's son is going to be a successful R&B singer one day"? Well, you should have. Robin works his sex appeal to nab fourth place with this funky Justin Timberlake rip-off.
  5. Owl City – Vanilla Twilight (LW – 9, W2): While we're not the hugest Owl City fans, he's at least got more talent in him than that bitch Ke$ha. His latest music video features a bunch of people looking at the sky. One or two of them are hot silver daddies. And that's all you really need to know.
  6. Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight (DEBUT): Can Christina make a successful transition from classy pin-up girl to futuristic slut-bag? We'd like to think so. The office is pretty divided on how we feel about this song, but it might just need more time to grow on them.
  7. Kelis – Acapella (RETURN): The "Bossy" diva prepares us for her new dance music sound with the lead single from her upcoming album Flesh Tones. Now that the crazy music video has been released, we're hoping this one has a better chance on the charts!
  8. Court Yard Hounds – Ain't No Son (DEBUT): Country music with a powerful, gay-friendly message? You may not have believed it was possible, but sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison of The Dixie Chicks teamed up for this tale of a son who is abandoned after coming out to his family.
  9. Lindsay Lohan – Stuck (WILD CARD): For all the complaint you make about the crappy music we post, it shows a lot that you chose Lindsay Lohan as the top pick in this week's Wild Card round. I mean, the song is pretty catchy, but really? Why don't we all just get spray tans and do drugs together?
  10. Kimberley Locke – Strobelight (WILD CARD): Even if Kimberley only came in third place for the Wild Card round, she gained a spot on here thanks to your comments. A few of you were really feeling the disco "roller rink" vibe of this tune.

  1. as soon as britney releases something new i will most certainly stop voting for gaga, so no questions about that.

  2. This week my votes went to Sophie, Kelis and Christina. I wanted to vote for Robyn and Gaga, but you only gave me three choices.
My suggestion for the wild card next week comes from UK singer Diana Vickers. She might remind you of Ellie Goulding a bit, but you have to check the video for her single “Once”. I hope this time my selection makes the cut. Her album drops in early May in England.

  3. Well let’s see most people on here are not rap fans and either don’t get/don’t care about Erykah Badu, it’s no surprise Linds would get a bunch of votes. This music chart is starting to look like every other “poll” on here……

  4. So great to see some fun new choices!
Kimberly Locke and Christina Aguilera got my votes 🙂

  5. YAY! Christina!
so glad to see her back
I voted for my gaga and my religion (xtina)
I just listened to “A cappella”
and I wish i could replace my vote for gaga
    HAHA
