Weekly Top Ten: Good & Bad News For Gaga

Good news for Lady Gaga! After coming in second place to Kylie Minogue on our last installment of the Weekly Top Ten, she’s stepped in to claim the number one spot with “Alejandro”. But don’t get too excited for her! Her previous single “Telephone” failed to receive enough votes to stay on the countdown, which led to an end to its fourteen-week run on the charts.

She’s joined in the loser’s circle by Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias and Katy Perry. They’ll be in good company along with Wild Card rejects OK Go, Arcade Fire and the Paradiso Girls. You can’t win ’em all!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, stick your dick in Kris Evans or Devin Draz while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (LW – 2, W3): We saw this one coming, but we didn’t think it would come so close! There was less than a two percent gap between Gaga and her greatest competitor. Perhaps “Alejandro” wasn’t the best single choice after all?
  2. Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (LW – 1, W5): The Australian dance diva may have been knocked back a spot, but she’s not going down without a fight. Don’t be surprised if she makes a comeback in the next couple of weeks. You may want to watch your back, Gaga…
  3. Christina Aguilera f/ Nicki Minaj – Woohoo (LW – 7, W2): Though most of you wouldn’t put your face anywhere near a lady’s “woohoo”, this song has somehow gained enough votes to claim the third place slot. It’s slowly growing on us, but we’re honestly not sure if this is really “song of summer” material.
  4. Robyn – Dancing On My Own (LW – 6, W3): Surprise! The extraordinarily underrated Swedish pop star has defeated a handful of stiff competition to gain her place on the charts. The first installment of her Body Talk series dropped this past Tuesday in the US, and we’d definitely recommend checking it out.
  5. Carrie Underwood – Undo It (LW – 9, W2): There was a three-way tie for fifth place between Carrie, Lady Gaga and Enrique Iglesias. We couldn’t justify saving all three songs, so we wound up choosing the one that stood out the most from the rest of the songs on the countdown. Work it out, Ms. Underwood!
  6. Kelly Rowland – Commander (LW – 4, W8): I know some of you are going to be mad that we chose to save Kelly over so many other great songs, but can you really blame us? After all those years of playing second fiddle to Beyonce, she deserves some time in the spotlight.
  7. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (DEBUT): Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Adam certainly gets people talking. While some of you appreciate his bold and unique sense of style, others have said that he makes “openly gay men look bad”. Let’s see if the fans outweigh the haters…
  8. Sarah McLachlan – Loving You Is Easy (DEBUT): So what if her music video doesn’t have pyrotechnics, elaborate costumes or carefully choreographed dance numbers? That doesn’t mean that Sarah McLachlan doesn’t deserve a chance on the Weekly Top Ten!
  9. Kelis – 4th of July (Fireworks) (DEBUT): We’re only a few weeks from all the Fourth of July barbecues (and potential orgies), and it only seems right that this song is blasting through our speakers. Our favorite “Bossy” chick has really outdone herself with this album!
  10. Le Sexoflex – Twincest (WILD CARD): This is a song about twins. More specifically, it’s a song about twins having sex with one another. We’d say we’re disappointed by this winning the Wild Card, but anything is better than the Paradiso Girls.

  1. I am SOOOOOOOO OVER Lady Gaga…she is OVER EXPOSED and overrated! She’s stolen all her look and sound from other artists INCLUDING Kylie Minogue….She’s NOT WORTHY to be at #1! Let’s keep Kylie (a true icon) at #1!

  2. I voted for Kylie, Kelis and Robyn. It’s gonna be another summer of divas. Instead of recommending a new song, why not do a wild card next week of songs that have been here and deserve a second chance?

I would put on that list these songs:

    – Fembots: Robyn
    – Fire by Fire: Scissor Sisters
    – Touch: Natasha Bedingfield
    – Te Amo: Rihanna

I am sure one of them could get a new lease in life and become a summer hit on this chart. Just a suggestion.

  3. This was a VERY easy choice. 🙂

Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert and Kelly Rowland all the way! All three are very fun and catchy songs to jam to and sing along with.

  4. I am still sticking to my suggestion from last week for the wild card, “Kickstart” by Example. I know he’s a rapper, but the song is really good, it has a few remixes out already and it’s gonna debut tomorrow on the UK Charts on the Top 5 according to the mid-week predictions. So far is ahead of All the lovers by Kylie Minogue in that chart. Give it a chance.

  5. WHAT???
I can’t believe this horrible song has taken 1st place , I’m starting to really dislike Gaga.
Lady Gaga please go away for at least a year , you are overexposed
Alejandro most horrible song evere , and the video even worse uggghh!
Let’s get Kylie back to number one where she should have stayed !

  6. Ale Alejandro! Gaga can do no wrong for me. Kylie gets my second vote, and I have never been a Kelis fan…but… 4th of July is hot! As for Xtina and skank-bag Nicki Minaj… no thanks. Nicki Minaj needs to go away seriously.

  7. Woah guys we need to keep Kelly on the charts, Commander is TOTALLY the song of the summer, this coming from the guy who has Lady Gaga’s signature tattooed on his arm.
