Weekly Top Ten: Don’t Call It A Comeback

Lady Gaga‘s done it again. It should come as a surprise to no one that “Alejandro” sits comfortably atop our Weekly Top Ten charts. No matter how hard her competitors try to beat her, they keep missing the mark by a few percentage points. But can a few old favorites get the job done? You’ll have to wait until next week to find out…

Of course, the answer is probably “no”. We had to give a similar response to songs by Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Sarah McLachlan and Le Sexoflex. None of them were able to secure enough votes to stay on the countdown, and they’ll all be thrown in the scrap heap with our Wild Card rejects, Usher and Natasha Bedingfield. Better luck next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, take a ride on this bus while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (LW – 1, W4): If we’re being entirely honest with you, Jackie Hoffman’s geriatric parody of this music video may have been better than the original. Of course, I don’t think Gaga needed much to stay in this position. Though her competition’s coming close, they just can’t seem to seal the deal.
  2. Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (LW – 2, W6): Oh, Kylie! You’re only a few votes away from reclaiming the number one spot! As much as we love Gaga, we’d love it even more to see some variation at the top of the charts. Will Gaga ever lose enough steam for Kylie to take over?
  3. Kelly Rowland – Commander (LW – 6, W9): Until it’s clear which of Kelly’s new singles takes off, we’re going to remain faithful to this awesome collaboration with David Guetta. After all, the well-matched pair did create last year’s unofficial song of summer “When Love Takes Over”. It’s only natural that they take the title again!
  4. Robyn – Dancing On My Own (LW – 4, W4): Despite all the rumors and music videos for other songs on this project, this seems to be one of the few consistently promoted singles. On another note, have you heard Robyn’s cover of Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”? I’m loving it so much!
  5. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (LW – 7, W2): As much as we’d love to hear Adam on a track that complimented his extraordinary vocals, it’s hard to ignore that this is a pretty fun dance track. And it’s nice to see that all the queens who complained that he’s too “queeny” couldn’t keep him off the countdown. Just sayin’.
  6. Kelis – 4th of July (Fireworks) (LW – 9, W2): Why did we save Kelis this week instead of all the other choices? Because we’re desperately hoping her song survives for Fourth of July weekend. Help a sister out by giving her one of your votes, and we might consider returning the favor. Sexually.
  7. La Roux – Bulletproof (RETURN): Better late than never! The eccentric duo gets a second chance on the charts, nearly a year after this track made its debut. They smashed the competition in the Wild Card round, but will they be able to do the same when it actually matters?
  8. Eminem f/ Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie (DEBUT): Even though America’s eating this shit up, your reactions were very mixed in regards to this track. We could see it pulling a surprise move into the top five. But we could also see it falling off the charts in a matter of seconds.
  9. Scissor Sisters – Fire With Fire (RETURN): Promotion for the Sisters’ latest project Night Work has been picking up in the past couple of weeks. Does that necessarily mean that they’ll be able to make a comeback? No, but we’d appreciate if Jake Shears posted more naked pictures…
  10. B.o.B. f/ Hayley Williams – Airplanes (DEBUT): Complaining about being famous! If Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus are capable of doing this, it only makes logical sense that Bobby Ray can do the same. At the very least, this song has got a damn catchy chorus.

  1. “4th of July” over “WooHoo”??…if it were Kelis’ “Acapella” I would understand but “4th of July” is just a really bad song. BAD CHOICE!!

This week I went with Kylie, Adam, and Eminem…simply the best songs up there. Alejandro is good, I’ve just played it so much at home I’ve kinda gotten tired of it haha…still love Gaga though

  2. This is probably the toughest its ever been for me to pick three. I am pretty much in love with all of these songs and have them all on my ipod.

When it came down to it though I picked Adam, Robyn and B.o.b

  3. So sad to see Carrie Underwood drop off. She’s all around awesome, but since I needed to make another choice here’s where I went:

    Adam Lambert
    Kelly Rowland
    Kylie Minogue

  4. this is HARD.
    but:
    b.o.b
    kelly
    lady gaga!!!
we need selena gomez & the scene’s round&round!

  5. I voted for Kylie, Kelis and La Roux.

Suggestion for next week is Hey Hey by Dennis Ferrer. This track is awesome and becoming a big hit on dancefloors across Europe. He’s a veteran DJ from New Jersey and I believe it has potential to be on this chart.

  6. I went with La Roux, Kelis and Kylie.
I heard the Dennis Ferrer single and it’s good, but I suggest for the Wild Card Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” (Smash Mode Remix Edit). They are geeky, but a great alternative band.

  7. Good to have La Roux back after a year. I hope Kylie goes back to the top. No suggestions this week as I like most of the songs that are on the top 10.

  8. I think some Semi Precious Weapons could shake up the charts a bit… Gaga’s support act should get a shot at the charts!!
