Weekly Top Ten: Big Victories For Adele & Aiden

English songstress Adele returns to the number one spot of our Weekly Top Ten countdown, after falling behind Pink and Katy Perry on last weekend‘s edition. Even more surprising, openly gay (and extremely sexy) singer-songwriter Aiden James has stormed into the top five with his acoustic jam “Best Shot”. Congrats to both on the big wins!

Of course, it isn’t good news for everyone! Cee-Lo Green, jj, Dev and Kerli didn’t receive enough votes to stay on the charts, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card rejects Iyaz, Diamond Rings and The Script. Better luck next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, lay on our massage table while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 3, W5): Adele, who? The skeptics can hate all they want to, but this chick earned her spot with her extraordinary voice and hum-worthy tune. If you don’t like that she’s in the number one spot, then vote harder for her competition! She only won by eight votes, after all.
  2. Pink – Raise Your Glass (LW – 1, W15): No disrespect to Adele, but didn’t we ask you to send Pink out with a bang? Last time we checked, the definition of “out with a bang” wasn’t second place! Pink has used up her fifteen weeks on this countdown, so we’ll be retiring “Raise Your Glass” from the charts. We’re sad to see it go.
  3. Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over (LW – 4, W3): Florence Welch was one vote away from nudging Pink down to third place. We guess that’s what happens when only 334 people vote in our poll? Either way, we’re glad this song is still in the mix, despite its late arrival to the competition.
  4. Aiden James – Best Shot (LW – 9, W2): I’d like to sum up Aiden’s placement on the charts with a nonsensical excerpt from his post–“Aiden’s voice is kind of like honey, except you have to imagine that honey having rampant sex with other honey.” And, honey child, you better vote for his sexy ass!
  5. Cher – You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me (LW – 5, W8): Two weeks in a row in the fifth position? If you keep voting in this fashion, this may actually be the last you see of Cher. This woman’s a living legend. She’s sixty-four years old and still making great music, for goodness sake! Throw her a frickin’ bone…
  6. Katy Perry – Firework (LW – 2, W6): The things we do for you! While we could have been total assholes and saved someone like Kerli, we listened to your comments and saved Mrs. Russell Brand. This is your last chance to keep this song on the countdown, so you better not blow it!
  7. Marsha Ambrosius – Far Away (DEBUT): Who the hell is Marsha Ambrosius? And why is she placed above all the other new entries? Well, the former Floetry member stepped out with an awesome R&B track, dedicating the song and video to the fight against LGBT bullying and suicide. Even if she doesn’t make it to next week’s round, we feel she deserves more attention for this!
  8. Roxette – She’s Got Nothing On (But The Radio) (WILD CARD): You win! In our “You Vs. Us” edition of the Wild Card round, both of your selections beat our picks. However, this Swedish pop duo’s comeback single pushed ahead of The Script in the last few hours. Do they have what it takes to mess around with the big-timers?
  9. Kanye West f/ Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver – Monster (RETURN): A few of you have issues with Kanye West. We get it, guys! He’s made some pretty ridiculous statements in the past… With that said, he’s apologized for every one of them, and his latest album proves he’s a huge asset to the hip-hop community. Plus, this is the best Nicki Minaj verse of 2010!
  10. Avril Lavigne – What The Hell (DEBUT): We had planned on pushing this song aside, but then we discovered Britney’s new single wouldn’t be out until next Tuesday! Apparently, you’ll just have to settle for this whiny-ass Avril single. Which, um, sounds like every other pop song on the radio.

  1. Firework by Katy Perry is still the best song on the radio! She got my most enthusiastic vote and I threw a couple of other votes to Roxette and Avril Lavigne just to mix things up a bit. 🙂

  2. I voted for Cher, Avril and Roxette. Not suggesting anything for next week since it’s obvious Britney’s new single is gonna stick around for the next 15 weeks. Besides this is an odd time of the year because we get the leftovers from last year and the first new hits of 2011 are not that strong yet.

  3. Pink’s not available any longer because this is her 15th week on the chart. Therefore, her song will be retired after this week’s countdown.

  4. Suggestion for next week is Biffy Clyro’s “Many of Horrors” or you can go with Matt Cardle’s version called “When We Collide”. He was the 2010 winner of X Factor in the UK. Maybe both versions could compete for a spot next weekend.

  5. Please please please vote off that pretentious Katy Perry song, cmon guys, I thought gay men were more savvy when it cums to music

  6. WHY is Firework still around?! OK it’s fun enough, especially when sung by Meghan Tonjes or anyone other than Katy Perry, but seriously… how hard is it to be brighter than the moon?

On the embarrassing flipside, loving Avril… whoops.
