Weekly Top Ten: All It Takes Is One Vote

We came dangerously close to having a new champion on today’s Weekly Top Ten countdown. Pop sensation Rihanna tried her best to yank the crown from Kylie Minogue‘s head, but she was ultimately defeated by one single vote. Youch! That’s got to hurt…

Of course, there are worst things than being in second place! Joe McElderry, OK Go and Cheryl Cole didn’t receive enough votes to stay on the charts, so we had to send them packing along with Rihanna’s other selection “Who’s That Chick?” and Wild Card rejects Blake McGrath, Carrie Underwood and Fefe Dobson.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, practice your kegel exercises while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (LW – 1, W5): Is Kylie Minogue the Tommy Tucker of the Weekly Top Ten? If she keeps up this momentum, she’ll sweep the entire competition! Then again, it looks like she may be losing her lead, if the song in second place has anything to say about it…
  2. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (LW – 2, W4): Two votes! That’s all it would have taken for Rihanna to steal Kylie Minogue’s number one spot. We don’t have anything against the Australian dance diva, but it’d be nice to see someone shaking up the charts. Perhaps this is the week that RiRi will go all the way?
  3. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (LW – 6, W10): The good news? Our decision to save Katy Perry didn’t prevent anyone awesome from filling this slot. The bad news? Katy Perry is still on the motherfucking countdown. You can’t escape this woman and her annoyingly catchy pop tunes!
  4. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 4, W7): This is the sixth week that “Any Which Way” has held the fourth place position. If this trend continues for eight more weeks, we’re going to consider this the Weekly Top Ten’s greatest conspiracy.
  5. Kelly Rowland – Rose Colored Glasses (LW – 3, W3): Where’s the love for Ms. Kelly? After voting her into the top five, you’ve let her slip to the brink of extinction! This is simply unacceptable. Y’all bitches better vote harder in this round.
  6. Florence + The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms (LW – 5, W3): Much like Kelly, Florence Welch deserves better than this! We were pleasantly surprised by your positive response to this track, but you threw it all out the window this past weekend. Step it up, boys!
  7. Kelis – Scream (DEBUT): Kelis keeps the dancefloor packed with her latest single from Flesh Tone. This one’s another banger from David Guetta, which means it sounds like every other damn song produced by David Guetta. At least the music video’s pretty entertaining?
  8. The Ting Tings – Hands (DEBUT): Due to popular demand, we opted to place this song on the countdown, but its fate now lies in your hands. Prove to us that we didn’t make a mistake by listening to your suggestion!
  9. Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are (DEBUT): Surprise! Bruno Mars never made it onto our rankings, so we’re finally giving him an opportunity to shine. Considering this song has become a huge hit over the past month, we think he may have a better chance.
  10. La Roux – In For The Kill (WILD CARD): If this song wasn’t over a year old, we would have given it a higher placement on the charts. What’s up with the US being so behind on good music?

  1. I agree, Alejandro.

I voted for the three Ks: Kylie, Kelly and Kelis. All very talented and in different ways.

  2. Nothing on this chart compares to GET OUTTA MY WAY. It’s just perfect as a pop song. Nothing against the other great tracks here, they just can’t compete, though.

  3. I voted for Katy, Burno, & La Roux. The rest of the choices aren’t really to my taste. I can’t believe Rihanna almost got #1. Y’all should be ashamed of yourselves. Granted, Only Girl (In This World) is miles better than any of the music off of the opportunistic Rated R album, but it’s nothing special. Just another bland, dance-flavored Pop song that some focus group probably said she should record & release. If only she had the charisma/stage presence Beyonce has, she’d be a true, rounded talent.

  4. Well, naturally Kylie beat out Rihanna since she IS the better singer. I don’t quite understand why the margin was that slim.

  5. I didn’t go with Kylie or Rihanna this week and I love both songs. I voted for Kelis, Ting Tings and La Roux since they have smaller chances to make it to week 2, but I am surprised to see “Scream” doing very well.

My suggestion for the Wild Card is the new Tinie Tempah track “Written in the stars”, featuring either Eric Turner or in the remixed version, Taio Cruz. It’s poised to be the new #1 on the UK singles chart this weekend.

  6. So many choices this week, but The Ting Tings, La Roux and Kelis are the best of the bunch. Where’s “Higher” by The Saturdays?

This song is such an anthem and should at least be given a chance to be on the Wild Card. The same goes for “Loca” by Shakira and “Radioactive” by Kings of Leon. They both deserve a second chance.

  7. I went with Kylie, the Ting Tings and La Roux. This week the Top 10 is more diverse and I like that. I also want to recommend another UK rapper for the Wild Card. His name is Labrinth and his first single is called “Let the sun shine”. He’s the only artist from Simon Cowell’s label in the UK that is not from a talent show competition, so at least we know he’s not that manufactured. He’s going head to head against Tinie Tempah this weekend for the best selling single of the week in the UK.

  8. I don’t really like the Kelis song…

I voted for Kylie and La Roux.

I would have voted for Rihanna also, but I just love Kylie too much. Kylie should be on top lol.

  9. I’m surprised how many votes Kelis is getting. I went with Kylie for support, but it might be late. I like the suggestion for Tinie Tempah. His album is coming out soon and it has collaborations with Ellie Goulding and Ms. Kelly Rowland.

  10. Get Outta My Way is probably the best song of the year, and the best song Kylie’s done in years — in an already impressive career! It deserves to be #1 endlessly! 😉
