So How Do You Think Paula Abdul Did Last Night?

Paula Abdul performed live on American Idol last night, her first time since the show debuted. Some have designated this performance a "hot mess", but it's nowhere near as bad as Britney Spears' 2007 VMA disaster.

I wasn't blown away or anything, but I'll admit that I was impressed that Paula managed to pull this off. Her sentences don't even make sense half of the time!

In the end, it doesn't really matter to me how good or bad the performance was. The world doesn't need another woman nearing her fifties trying to act like a twenty-something pop star. It's all about nostalgia.

Paula could have danced en pointe while finding a cure for cancer, and I'd still go for the old school Abdul. If she had thrown a cartoon cat in the mix, I would have been all over this shit.

  1. Dewitt,
Didn’t really get what you were trying to say with woman nearing her fifties comment, especially when Tina Turner is nearly 70 years of age. Paula performance wasn’t good or bad. I would have perferred maybe a different song, but the performance was ok.

  2. I thought it was bad. It wasn’t good nor was it a good song choice. Had she been a contest on the show they’d have ripped her to shreds. Singing a song that requires a synth or any other non-human vocal mods live is never a good choice. It doesn’t showcase your talent. At least the dancing was good. I sat there bored to tears. Also, No Doubt’s performace was not nearly as good as any of their other performances. It’s all about song choice and they both failed.

  3. I loved this performance. Sure it’s not what you would see from today’s popstars but Paula is a classic and will always perform that way. She rocked it!

  4. First of all, it wasn’t live. It was filmed Tuesday after the show (just like No Doubt’s performance). Daughtrey was the only one that sang live.
    Also, Paula was lip synching.
But I thought she danced well.

  5. Gee, and people wonder why the recording industry is in such a poor state. Could it be that they keep throwing crap like this at us and expecting us to BUY it?
It’s MUSIC, folks. Not dancing, not looking hot in skimpy clothing, not how many bars you can get the paparazzi to chase you to, not how many tabloids you can get your mug on. Get rid of the manufactured superstars and bring back real musicians who give a damn about the music, and nothing but.
