Now Presenting The 2010 Song of Summer!

While the rest of the world has claimed Katy Perry‘s “California Gurls” as their Song of Summer, the readers of Manhunt Daily didn’t quite agree with that sentiment. Based on your votes from our Weekly Top Ten, the race ultimately came down to two competitors–Kylie Minogue‘s “All The Lovers” and Lady Gaga‘s “Alejandro”.

When we first ran the numbers, we were convinced the dance-floor divas had tied one another, but a second look proved that Gaga came ahead by a total of two points. Ironically, this was thanks to a round when the ladies actually tied one another.

So there you have it! Whether you like it or not, Manhunt Daily readers have chosen “Alejandro” as the official 2010 Song of Summer. This is the second year in a row that Lady Gaga has claimed the title. It’s also the second year in a row that we thought the runner-up was more worthy. What do you think? Did Gaga deserve the crown?

To check out the full top ten list, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga – Alejandro (124 Points): You know where we stand on this matter. As much as we love this (free) bitch, this song didn’t come close to encapsulating our summer experience. In the future, can she please release one of her legitimately good singles during the summer? Just sayin’.
  2. Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (122 Points): Of course, you also know where we stand on this matter. Following in the footsteps of “When Love Takes Over”, this song has become our pick for unofficial 2010 Song of Summer. Perhaps Kylie will have better luck next year?
  3. Kelly Rowland – Commander (52 Points): The one flaw with this track? Despite Rowland and David Guetta’s best efforts, they could never recapture the magic of last summer’s gem “When Love Takes Over”. Even so, this one certainly made us sweaty on the dance-floor.
  4. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (44 Points): Despite the haters who think Adam reinforces negative gay stereotypes, the former American Idol contestant has carved his own niche and won a place on our charts. Hey gurl hey, this fierce bitch has worked it out.
  5. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (38 Points): Though you failed to latch on to “California Gurls”, this one benefited from a whole lot of enthusiasm. You can consider it a late bloomer, or you can thank hunky model Josh Kloss for making the video vaguely tolerable.
  6. Lady Gaga f/ Beyonce – Telephone (20 Points): Surprisingly, Gaga’s previous single managed to creep into the summer months, sticking around for a few weeks before getting replaced by something fresher. The little monsters sure do love their queen, eh?
  7. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (10 Points): I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t this just debut on the countdown? You’d be correct in saying this, but let’s not forget how it stormed into the top spot. Had we premiered this track earlier, it may have ranked appeared in a higher placement.
  8. Chris Salvatore – Dirty Love (10 Points): Due to an eager Twitter campaign, openly gay performer Chris Salvatore stole the number one position for exactly one week. Then he dropped off like a fly. Well, at least he’s pretty…
  9. Robyn – Dancing On My Own (8 Points): Alas, Robyn should have done better on the charts, but she just couldn’t get enough votes to stay in the mix. Either way, the first two installments of her Body Talk series totally owned our summer.
  10. Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight (8 Points): While the true fans managed to keep this around for a couple of rounds, there was no denying that Christina Aguilera’s Bionic was a total flop. At least she got into the top ten?

  1. Damn…

I love GaGa, but Alejandro is definitely not the best song off the record… I reckon it’s a good song that was used to tide the fans over while GaGa’s on tour and writing her new album. I also think the same of Dance in the Dark.

Kylie on the other hand stormed the charts with her first single off the album. So yes, as much as love GaGa, Kylie deserved number 1. It’s good to see Get Outta My Way on there though haha.

  2. I don’t know that I’ve heard Alejandro more than a few times on the radio, while I heard Kylie LOADS. I never heard it a pride event in Madrid, Sitges or Amsterdam or anywhere in the clubs in London, Barcelona and Paris. I DID hear Kylie in ALL of those places on several occasions. What one song will remind me of Summer 2010 when I hear it again (especially on the year end countdowns)? ALL THE LOVERS. I know, points are points, but Alejandro made very little lasting impact outside of this chart. Kylie can still be proud of that!

  3. Kylie deserve that title more than Lady Gaga. I believe All the lovers spent more weeks at Number One here than Alejandro did. At least Get outta my way is on top and Gaga’s single will be retired this week.

  4. There’s no accounting for taste, even among Manhunt Daily readers/listeners apparently. Many diss bi porn with cute guys, make vile racist remarks, and apparently vote repeatedly for music that never should have left the studio.

The downfall of the gay community as style leaders has begun I tell ya!

  5. Noooo, this was totally Katy’s summer, California gurls followed by teenage dream. Alejandro got played out before the summer. I’ve heard wayy more Katy than anyone.

Sooo tired of gaga and her nymphs.

  6. Now that she is crowned can we give this bitch a rest from the countdown? I like her as much as the next fag but good lord.

  7. Gaga deserves all the fame she has, but Alejandro is not the song of the summer.

Anyone who attended a Pride this summer knows that Kelly Rowland’s Commander was what the boys wanted to dance to this summer.

    Anyone agree?

  8. Yeah, I’d add Commander to that list, too. Didn’t hear it as much as I expected to, or nearly as much as Kylie, but was still there more than Alejandro!

  9. Gaga’s always been overated. Kylies does deserve it better than her. Actually, anyone does deserve it but Gaga!

  10. Gaga’s always been overrated. Kylies does deserve it better than her. Actually, anyone does deserve it but Gaga!

  11. Sorry, but Alejandro is fucking boring, though I do acknowledge that it has been a good year for Lady Gaga.
On the other Hand, California Gurls, Get Outta My Way and Commander are a TOTAL success, wherever they play, worldwide -or so I’ve heard and saw the videos-

At least, for me, Gaga will not have the crown

  12. What I really want to know is what was the criteria to determine the number of points each song gets. How did Gaga end up with 2 more points than Kylie? In any case, this Saturday “Alejandro” won’t be around in the Top 10. Thank God for that. Time to move on.

  13. ugghhh ! I think I just threw up ! , what a horrible song ! It should have gone to Kylie for sure .It’s officially a lame sumer !!!

  14. While Alejandro is one of my least favorite GaGa songs, I’m still glad she won. Thought Kylie’s song is great.

I’m just really glad California Gurls isn’t on this list. That song is sooooooo terrible. Teenage Dream is great though, and could have been higher.

Robyn also should have been higher. The rest of them are crap that I don’t care about at all.

  15. California Gurls is a fun song buoyed by the video. It’s pure pop. I do think Teenage Dream is a better song, but not necessarily a summer song.

Alejandro is forgetable and cliched. Definitely not one of Gaga’s better efforts.
