Is Fantasia Really The Greatest Idol Contestant Ever?

Fantasia
Yesterday, we had a lot of trouble stopping ourselves from talking about American Idol. It was basically all we could think about. Now that we've had some time to breathe over Adam Lambert's loss and Kris Allen's shiteous single, can we move on to other Idol topics?
MTV has put up their list of the greatest contestants ever, and Fantasia Barrino is number one. As a big fan of such gems as "Baby Makin' Hips", I honestly am in no place to argue with this ranking.
Other individuals on the list included Elliott Yamin, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and five others. Kris Allen didn't make the list, but guess who did?

  1. Obviously, when it comes to height of success and record sales she’s not the best Idol contestant/winner, but when it comes to being on the show…I agree, Fantasia was the best.
She had a unique voice, and was completely unafraid of it. She picked great songs, sang the hell out of them, and owned that stage while doing so.
She was a talented and fearless contestant, and obviously the fearless part is what won America over (because we’ve all seen how quickly America gets rid of talent on that show).

  2. I disagree. Fantasia was NOT a favorite of mine. In fact, I wanted to slit my wrist the night that she sang her final song. She screamed it into the mic. Kelly Clarkson will forever be the TRUE first American Idol. Take a look at her career, she is doing better than any of the others thought about doing.

  3. I think Fantasia was the second worst contest ever after Taylor Hicks.
Whoever made that list is obviously an idiot. Did they not see Fantasia’s horrendous performance on idol last year? After that Simon Cowell said she will most likely NOT be invited to perform on the show again. HAH! She’s horrible.

  4. well’s thanks for your opinion randal. it’s a list, something people made up for fun; nothing serious.
i liked studdard/barrino and a few others. after their seasons i kinda stoppd watching. and k.clarkson? not really a fan, plus she’s gotten kinda “husky”…

  5. Vocally, Fantasia was the best.
But the greatest Idol overall would be Kelly Clarkson, followed by Carrie Underwood.
All of the other Idols are pretty damn lame in my opinion.

  6. Melinda Dolittle is still the best performer they’ve had on there. How she did not beat out that Blake Lewis fool for top two I’ll never understand.

  7. Fantasia was NOT the best. Kelly Clarkson was the first, and in my opinion, the only true American Idol. I agree with most of the others, but Kelly would have been first, Carrie second, and J Hud probably third.

  8. When looking at the criteria MTV used for their list, I agree that Fantasia is #1.
She hasn’t sold as many albums as Kelly or Carrie but records sales weren’t the only things looked at. Carrie and Kelly haven’t conquered any other medium but music and you can’t honestly deny Fantasia’s success on Broadway. Jennifer Hudson has conquered film to trump Fantasia on Broadway but Fantasia has sold more albums and has more radio hits than Jennifer.
