Coming out can be a difficult thing for many LGBTQ people, which is why it’s always nice if you have a friendly face to help you through it. But for one lucky individual, that person was only Harry Styles.
The ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer helped one young fan come out to their mum at a concert in Milwaukee on Wednesday (3 November). We’re sure neither she nor Harry are going to forget that any time soon!
Video footage captured during Styles’ Love on Tour gig in Milwaukee shows the former One Direction-er interacting with a fan near the stage holding a bedazzled sign reading: “My mom is in Section 201. Help me come out??”
After locating the fan’s mum on the other side of the stadium Harry runs back to his fan and asks her: “Do you want to tell her or should I tell her?” before saying he was happy to relay the important news.
Running back to the mother’s side of the stage Harry says: “Lisa… She’s gay!” to rapturous applause from the audience, while the mother (now displayed on a giant screen) can be seen crying with happiness as she waves down to her daughter.
Back in 2019, Harry told The Guardian of his own sexuality: “Am I sprinkling in nuggets of sexual ambiguity to try and be more interesting? No.”
He also said: “It’s not like I’m sitting on an answer, and protecting it, and holding it back. It’s not a case of: I’m not telling you cos I don’t want to tell you. It’s not: ooh this is mine and it’s not yours. […] It’s: who cares? Does that make sense? It’s just: who cares?”
