We get some weird e-mails from photographers. Occasionally, they’re threatening to sue us if we don’t immediately remove their work. However, in most cases, they’re just asking for photo credits. We’re never going to argue with that. If you create something beautiful, you should receive credit for it, right?
That was originally the case when David Arnot contacted us, after he noticed that we used one of his shots of Jeremy Rowback on this week’s edition of The Ten. He was super polite about the whole situation! As if that weren’t enough, he then offered to send over a few more “hot shots” of Jeremy. And, um, they’re really hot.

This is the first time in at least 6 months that I’ve logged in twice after seeing the photo-spread for the first time to check out a photo. I don’t know just how good a photographer that David Arnot is or isn’t but, Good Lord, look at what he was working with this time around. Actually, under fair use you are allowed to show someone’s work without their permission if it is posted in a public forum or on another site. At the request of the artist or their representatives, they can ask you to remove it or site credit for the work. In order to be quantified as ‘stealing’ someone’s work would be if Dewitt claimed the photos were shot by him.
One should be educated on what they are speaking of before going on long winded tangents on a porn site…

Practically speaking, as a photographer, I PREFER it if someone asks before posting or blogging, but I’m generally pretty generous with it all IF the image has my watermark on it, they credit me and they provide a link back to my original source. The problem is when someone snags one of my pieces and posts it on the internet and then it’s floating out in cyberspace forever. Precisely why I recently chose to delete my flickr account with nearly 8 million views- mainly because tumblr bloggers were ripping me off left and right.
