Chris Brown Booked For Assaulting Rihanna?

Rihana Chris Brown

Chris Brown was booked last night in Los Angeles on charges from an alleged assault on his girlfriend, pop sensation Rihanna. The two got into an argument which escalated when Chris Brown stopped the car they were in and a physical altercation took place. A witness on the scene called 911 but by the time the cops arrived Chris Brown was nowhere to be seen and the woman named him as her attacker.

According to the LA Times, an official police statement did not name Rihanna, but said the woman "suffered visible injuries.” However, many sources have named Rihanna as the woman involved. Chris Brown was booked on charges of making criminal threats Sunday evening and is under investigation for felony charges of domestic violence.

Both were scheduled to perform at the Grammys last night and canceled last minute. I'm a fan of both artists and was looking forward to their performances, I'm not sure what to think of this. Do you guys think it will hurt his career if he is found guilty of assaulting Rihanna?

UPDATE: TMZ has confirmed that Rihanna is the woman involved, and that the allegation includes assault with a deadly weapon, though the weapon involved is not known.

UPDATE: Wrigley has suspended all ad campaigns with Chris Brown who is their current spokeman for Doublemint Gum. They issued a statement say:

"Wrigley is concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown. We believe Mr. Brown should be afforded the same due process as any citizen. However, we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."

UPDATE: TMZ got it wrong and there was no weapon used in the alledged assault.

  1. “Do you guys think it will hurt his career if he is found guilty of assaulting Rihanna?”
No, if anything it will give his career a boost. The “Hip-hop” style is all about being a criminal, so if he goes to jail, he’ll probably get more record deals.
Celebrities should have tougher sentences when they pull shit like this. Kids look up to these people, since most parents have left the parenting up to television, so when the role models act like morons, it’s really the kids who suffer.

  2. Ruckus Husky, oh shut up. He’s not even a hip hop artist so to automatically assume that he is because his race you are wrong. Go sit your husky ass somewhere. I think it will kill his career. People will love Rihanna like Tina Turner and Chris Brown will be Ike. And “Hip Hop” is not about being criminal at all. Get cultured and read a book bitch!

  3. Wow. So many ignorant responses.
Barack Obama in the White House, and still so far to go…
Anyways, I think this will kill if not, really hurt his career.
Like Tina, and Whitney, I believe Rihanna will move on and come out of this better.

  4. I believe the black community will be much more forgiving to Chris Brown based on the merits of its cultural standards. I would argue that much has been made of how top-selling rap and R&B artists are making money while doing so at the expense of stereotyping black American culture. And much of that involves a steady stream of music videos, stand-up comedy routines and lyrics on drugs, promiscuity, gun violence and living in excess. (I’m still trying to figure out that whole use of the “N”-word as being acceptable within the black community but elsewhere it is racist)
Domestic abuse is also commonplace in many black communities, and will have less of an impact when a story such as Chris Brown’s hits the airwaves. I say he gets the sympathy vote with a slap on the wrist from the black community.
Certainly, topics on the social ills of the country knows no color barriers; and artists are often celebrated and excused from today’s politically correct world. However, the non-black community won’t be so forgiving on the offender and will side with the victim.
