Aural Only: Shakira

Is anyone else sporting a major boner for Shakira's new song "Loba"? The English version, "She Wolf", should be leaking soon, and it may single-handedly bring disco right back into the mainstream. I was pretty opposed to the whole disco revival until Shakira came out with this. There's something about her unique vocals that makes it sound less cheesy. Expect this to make a debut on our Song of Summer charts this weekend!

  1. Am I the only one to find Shakira to have an utterly unbearable, hideous voice. Yes, she can hit the notes she wants, but she fails to make them sound beautiful. It’s an example where skill (and I use that term loosely) does not always equal excellence.
Let’s find some less mainstream music that’s equally as good? How about finding things that are interesting, ground-breaking, not generic, and addictive?

  2. oh please never be opposed to a disco revival! Its awesome hot and fun. That track is hot. period

  3. Wow, Michael. Last I checked I had the freedom to choose whatever music I want to listen to. Shakira has a unique voice, and plenty of beautiful songs. You’ve probably only listened to her hits on the radio and never even tampered with her solely Spanish success and other songs on her albums that are often times way better than her singles. This is a girl who was writing poems at 4, her own lyrics and singing at the age of 8, and had a record deal at 13. Shakira is far from “generic”. If you don’t like her style, fine. But find something better to do than list your every dislike.

  4. bah, what a waste. shakira is best at doing latin style songs – there are tons of others who do disco. doesnt suit neither her style nor her voice.
    disappointed..

  5. I love Shakira but I have to say I do NOT like this song. And I am definitely one of those people who loves her Spanish songs more than her English ones!
