Aural Only: Sarah McLachlan

I know what you’re thinking–“Are you seriously posting a Sarah McLachlan song? Have we stumbled into Lilith Fair, circa 1998?” This sentiment is completely understandable. On a personal level, I can’t hear the Canadian singer-songwriter’s name without envisioning sad puppies and kitties.

But here’s the thing. We received several requests to add her new single “Loving You Is Easy” to the Weekly Top Ten. After taking a listen to the song, we realized it was actually kind of good! Click through to check it out, and let us know if you think it has “Song of Summer” potential.

  1. I see they spared no expense on this video, huh? Sarah walking around in an abandoned warehouse, two dress changes and a fan? What the hell does any of that have to do with “Lovin’ You Is Easy”??? Pathetic song, pathetic video!

  2. I have always dug Sarah! But sadly, Lilith Fair tix are NOT selling well. Hard to take a long break like that and expect the audience to return with you.

  3. Like Erik, I love Sarah, but think she needs to stick to the more “ethereal” style vocals that she is so famous for. This tempo and style doesn’t capture or present her singing well; it is too similar to Enya trying to go mainstream (think Streisand trying to sing arias, Kiri Te Kanawa and pop, Sarah Brightman and…well, damn, there is nothing of SB’s I don’t like). I don’t dislike it terribly but I won’t be buying the album anytime soon.

  4. JimmyT not everyone needs to have a Lady GaGa style crazy video. Beyonce just danced around and people went ape shit over that video. Calm down.

Anyways, I like this song. I’ve always liked Sarah but never enough to really get albums. I always felt like listening to an entire album would get really boring really fast. Her singles are always good though.

  5. I think this is an amazing song. Lyrically, no one is the music business can really match her. Her new album “Laws of Illusion” comes out tomorrow. Take a listen to “Forgiveness.” If you are not absolutely blown away by the power of the lyrics to that song, then I don’t know what to say. We have all had a boyfriend/girlfriend who has done that to us. As for the video for “Loving You Is Easy”, why does it have to be over the top? Why cant things just be simple?

  6. I enjoyed that. It sounds like Sarah covering Colbie, but it was cute. The video was kind of dumb, but if the song came on the radio, it would make me smile.
