Aural Only: Patrick Wolf

We’re gearing up to add some big pop releases from to our Weekly Top Ten countdown. With new tracks by Adele, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez on deck, we thought we’d spruce up tomorrow’s charts with some more indie flavor. After all, you’re already getting Rihanna and Jessie J! Why not make things interesting with a few underdogs?

Not to mention, Patrick Wolf is fucking cute. As if that’s not enough for you (and it seems it might not be), he’s also really talented. OMG Blog designated his tune “Time of My Life” as the tenth gayest song of 2010, placed directly behind Lady Gaga‘s “Alejandro”.

But that’s a discussion for a whole other day! His latest single “The City” has been making the rounds, and it’s one-hundred percent awesome. The music video features the floppy-haired singer frolicking around a beach with friends, as he sings this delicious rock-pop jam. It’ll make you want to pump your fists. But in a Brooklyn hipster sort of way, which isn’t to be confused with the Jersey Shore style of fisting. Or this kind of fisting.

To make matters even more amazing, Wolf signed on producer Richard X to contribute his own take on the track. This guy has produced remixes for everyone from Gwen Stefani to Pet Shop Boys, as well as original tracks for Goldfrapp and M.I.A. Long story short? He transforms “The City” into an epic club banger, and we’d suck seven DJ’s dicks just to hear this in a gay club. Kidding, kidding! Well, sort of…

  1. I’ve been intrigued by him in the past but never been interested after hearing his tracks. This is the first one not to disappoint and that remix is actually quite great! Thanks!

  2. You know, I am eternally grateful to this site for bringing my attention to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. That being said, any chance we could get some more Aural Only entries more along those lines? Please and thank you!

  3. I know it is not a track that would ever be successful on the top 10, but i think you should put “Illusion of Bliss” on the Aural Only. It is Sarah McLachlan’s new one, and probably her best single in 8 years.

    Its worth a listen.
