Aural Only: Beyonce Knowles

Isn’t it funny how Beyonce basically fills the absence of her former Destiny’s Child members with back-up dancers? I love how almost every recent video release has included her two replacements for Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams just taking up the extra space. It’s actually quite fascinating!

This reminds me of a story a friend once told me about Kelly breaking her leg. She took a seat while singing in a bedazzled cast, and a back-up dancer did all her moves. In the world of Matthew Knowles, it’s all about the formation, you know?

But I digress (far too often). The video for Ms. Carter’s “Sweet Dreams” isn’t her best, but it’s nowhere near as boring as the videos she’s made for “If I Were a Boy” and “Halo”. Is it just me, or is there something kind of off-putting about the choreography? It’s very Beyonce, but it doesn’t seem to fit this particular song.

Oh well, I still can see this being played on the wall of every gay video bar from here to Bumblefuck. With the song’s immense sexual energy, I’m skeptical that anybody will actually be watching. They’ll be too busy drunkenly dry-humping on the dance floor. Or maybe I’m the only slut who does that?

  1. waaaaaaay too much rewinding on the choreography… thats why it looks so fucking weird.

  2. The video is odd, but this is one of the best songs from the album, much better than Ego. I hope it gets played more.

  3. good song, but i’m getting a little tired of the same format of her videos: her and two back up dancers. i liked the videos from her last album better, for the most part. still the best though.
