Album Review: Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do by Major Lazer

Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do by Major Lazer
What's all this hoopla about Major Lazer? Sure, you might not have heard of this fictitious Jamaican zombie fighter, but he's all the rage within the elite land of music blogs. Why? Because he's actually two people–Diplo and Switch, both known primarily for their work with critics' darlings M.I.A. and Santigold
In fact, Santi herself makes an appearance on the lead single to their debut album, Guns Don't Kill People…Lazers Do. "Hold The Line" is far from the best offering though, especially when placed next to "Keep It Goin' Louder" with Nina Sky (Remember them?) and Ricky Blaze.
For a collection of songs in the same vein as Timbaland's Shock Value or N.A.S.A.'s In The Spirit of Apollo, this works surprisingly well. The only true tragedies involve Andy Milonakis and an auto-tuned baby that isn't utilized to its full potential.
You might want to stream the album on MySpace before purchasing, considering that the dancehall riddim vibe won't quite be everyone's cup of tea.
