A Mother’s Love Gone Too Far?

Otto Dating Page

A British woman is pleading for volunteers to get her son laid. If that doesn't sound odd from the get-go, the fact that her son is a 21-year-old with Down's Syndrome might do it.

The woman, Lucy Baxter, claims she just wants her son Otto to "enjoy the same experiences as other men his age." She believes, probably rightfully so, that he would have a hard time finding those "experiences" on his own so she has turned to the women of England's generosity.

If generosity doesn't work, Baxter says she is ready to pay for her son's pleasure. She says, "I have brought Otto up to relate to everybody so he has
always been to mainstream school and mixed with everybody. I would like
to see him with a girlfriend. I would prefer to see him with a
girlfriend who doesn't have Down's."

The concept seems nice enough, and Ms. Baxter does care for four other children with Down's Syndrome, but I'm not sure if paying for a prostitute or getting a "pity fuck" is the best way to go about it. What do others think?

  1. Hahahahahahahaha!
Ok, laughing aside, the mother’s intentions are sweet, but none the less, the idea of having your mother choose who your first time is with is creepy as hell!
Being w/ a prostitute or just getting a pity fuck is just as bad i think.
I’m sure there are other ways to go about this, but I’m coming up with nothing (lol)!
I’m also pretty sure that people with down syndrome have found love/ hooked up/ whatever before, but if she thinks it’s what’s in his best interest, and he doesn’t dissaprove of it, then what the hell, I say go for it!

  2. omg i have read it all, the fact that his mom needs to help him get laid is weird. but the fact that she is willing to pay someone is even more weird. im sure someone would d it for free. I just wonder if mom is going to sit and watch or tell him how to stick it lol

  3. There are definitely people with Downs Syndrome who have successful marriages, so it’s certainly not impossible that a man with Downs could get laid on his own. But…the people who have romantic relationships and regular sex tend to be high-functioning. Which he probably isn’t.
I don’t think there’s nothing wrong with her intentions…but is it really necessary to publicly humiliate him like this? All she has to do is advertise on craigslist for someone who has a fetish for the mentally challenged. I’d bet someone would come along.

  4. i have heard otto’s mom at some length on the radio talking movingly and warmly about her son. he sounds like quite a special lad. your “news” post – with its misleading focus on a putative offer to pay for sex – trivializes a complex issue and the important issues it raises about people with learning disabilities. shame on you, manhunt.
