Whoa, Hillary Clinton Made An “It Gets Better” Video!

A surprising amount of celebrities and public figures have contributed to the It Gets Better campaign. While many of the messages were heartfelt and sincere, there were a few that came off as not-too-subtle attempts at getting a little publicity. But in the long run? We’ll forgive them, because it’s still a good cause…

With that said, none of these people were U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Sure, it may mean something for LGBT youth to receive support from their favorite singer or actor, but it’s much more powerful to hear this message from someone within our government. Do you agree or disagree?

  1. Regardless of what people think of her, I’ve always really liked Hillary. I personally think it’s a pretty big step in the right direction when someone with so much political power takes a stance like this.

  2. I was a fanatical Obama supporter in 2008, but I sure wish Hillary would challenge him for the nomination in 2012. I’d vote for her in a nano-second.

  3. I’m fairly certain you mean “there were a FEW” and not “far.”
Honestly, I disagree with that it’s a much more powerful sentiment coming from a political figure, but that’s just me…

  4. She has always been a champion for the underdog, the repressed and every minority! Her influence is so important!

  5. The public does not see enough of her compassionate side. The media tends to focus on her aggressiveness, which has probably hurt her image over the years. As an Independent voter, and former Republican (yeah, I said it)…I have always been impressed with that “softer” (not to be confused with weak) side of Ms. Clinton and the issues that she champions. And I think she would gain broader appeal from everyone if we saw more of her as a person with strong beliefs and not the political figure and caricature. She’d be my choice if she were to put her name back in the running in 2012.

  6. All these gay idiots who supported Obama fervently over Hillary last time are lame, lame, lame.
Hillary has always cared about our community.
    I love you Hillary!

  7. I remember the first time I saw her speak, during the Clinton attempt to reform health care. In the Q&A, she answered questions in the most sophisticated, nuanced fashion, with all kinds of facts and figures, without a note. I supported her in the last primary, and would love if she ran again.

And how cool is that “LGBT employees in the state department.”

  8. not a big hillary fan here…but i applaud her (gayly) and thank her from the heart. regardless of the motive, a good act is just that–a good act. and anyone who creates this kind of positive energy for young people (how many of us have been in the same position before?) gets kudos from me. thanks hillary–great use of your voice, position and power.

  9. Promoted Hillary in the primary and would do so again if given the choice. No matter what anyone else thinks, personally I agree that it is nice to see a politician come forward and show support.

  10. She should have been Presient. I rooted for her once, and would do it again in 2012 and/or 2016 if necessary. She hasn’t ever compromised her principles and political views in her politial career.

    Go Hillary!!!!!!

  11. The best thing Obumma could do for the Demo’s in 2012 is decide not to run and let Hillary go for it, that way the Repukes wouldn’t get the office from 2012 to 2020.
You can thank Howard (I’m such a jealous asshole) Dean and the Media for allowing Obumma to over take Hillary in 2008, and all of Black and half of White America drank the Kool aid.

  12. I get to say it since no one else has.

    YOU GO GIRL!!!!

    Double SNAPS

An idea, turn the tables for 2012, Hillary President and Obama Vice President, might be a hard ticket to beat.

  13. I think it came from the right place, and I appreciate her doing this video – but was it just me or was this not necessarily a speech that a teenager could relate to?

Too political, a little long winded. Of course, it was still a great thing for her to do – not unappreciated.

Clearly some gay on her staff agrees with me – because nobody was helping her out with those bags under her eyes. Girlfriend needs a nap.

    Go Hillary !

  14. I don’t agree with her politics, and I don’t really like her, but I have to give her props for this video. I have a new-found respect for her.

  15. What’s with the people lifting up Hillary by bashing Obama? Do you think Hillary would be making those statements on behalf of the state department if the White House didn’t approve? Yes, we’d all like to see a more positive direct statement from the White House but let’s get real. Political realities exist, and with mid terms coming up, the President has some limits on what he can say practically. Obama and his team, including Hillary, have taken more progressive steps than we’ve seen in most of our lifetimes. they’ll take more if they have help on Capitol Hill.

  16. it’s difficult to question her motives when shes been a supporter of our community for such a long time. she was standing up for minority rights before it was cool, that has to count for something. i think shes awesome. love her to bits

  17. I’m a huge Hillary fan but I can’t help wonder if some of this is motivated by the current DADT hoopla. I believe that personally Hillary is a big gay rights advocate but it seems her slant towards “serving country” was aimed at Congress and all their squabbling. End governmental bullying and end governmental discrimination…end DADT and legalize gay marriage.

  18. This is a beautiful thing…I am sitting here thinking back to my own days of being bullied as a little sissy band boy back in Mississippi…and how, at times, I wanted to die myself. What it would have meant for ANYBODY–much less a former first lady and the US Secretary of State–to deliver such a compassionate message to GLBT youth. Thank you, Hillary.

  19. @Terry: That’s the most sensible comment I’ve read ever in this blog’s comments section. Thank you for that.

  20. I certainly applaud her for creating and posting this video. I’ve been a supporter of hers for a long time. Now where is our president’s video? Oh, that’s right. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass.

  21. Wonder if there is any truth to the rumor that she is a closet dyke and was having an affair with Markie Post a few years back.

  22. Everyone is discussing her motives while not clearly realizing what she has already done for the LGBT community. The Dept of State is the only Obama Administration Department or Agency to offer same-sex benefits and has done so for over a year. If you ask if she needed permission to do this, I think not. I believe the deal brokered during Primary 08 set that. We will see Obama/Clinton 2012 as the ticket, Mama Grizzles will sizzle over what the 2010 take over accomplishes and landslide the 12 years of another Clinton in the White House.

  23. I disagree. I’m a Democrat, but I don’t believe a word that comes out of Hillary Clinton’s mouth. Nothing she says is not politically motivated. She is an egomaniac who wants nothing but to be the first female president of the United States, and she will say whatever a specific audience wants to hear. This video is nothing more than pandering for potential votes.
