Rugby Star Gareth Thomas Chats With Ellen DeGeneres

You may have heard about openly gay rugby star Gareth Thomas‘ recently appearance on Ellen. The video has been making the rounds on the gay blog circuit, and we’ve decided to post it for a few reasons. The most obvious? Gareth is a total babe, and we can’t get enough of his sexy accent. Of course, there’s a much more important reason! His story is incredibly inspirational, especially for anyone who’s had (or is currently having) difficulty coming out.

Although this isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Gareth’s journey, we still got a little choked up during this interview. This man is truly a role model, and we can only hope his experience will pave the way for future openly gay athletes. Yay for mushy moments!

  1. He has a very nice butt and body. In one of the pictures, he had some teeth missing in front. If so, I am glad he wore his false teeth. Ellen is a beautiful human being. I’ve never watched her show.

  2. What a fantastic, sexy, hot guy! Courageous and inspiring…and I’d love him to pin me to the floor anytime

  3. Wow, besides the obvious (such as the fact I would love to lick him from head to toe…woof!), it is nice to see a “successful” coming out story…I love that his “macho” father made a toast to the rest of his son’s new life…there are way too many coming out stories which do NOT have such happy endings…I know way too many gay men who have been completely ostracized from their biological families because of one trait among the many traits which make up a human life…hopefully more “famous” people in all walks of life will find the courage to be themselves…it does send the right message to kids and adults, gay and straight…a gay person is much more than just a “gay person”…

  4. Like most rugby players, he’s missing a lot of front teeth. Really cuts into his sexiness factor

  5. One thing not mentioned is that this is happening in the U.K., where quite frankly being gay is not a big deal. Most people really don’t care who you sleep with. Here we have a large puritanical faction who are certainly non-accepting and hostile. So while a European/Welsh gay athlete may fare better, over here, it is still a killer of a career. Sad that the people of this country constantly talk about freedom and yet on the basic right to marry whom you choose is still denied shows the hypocrisy of the statement.

  6. Only one problem, Ian Roberts was openly gay while he was playing Rubgy League in Australia in 1995 and that was BIG news, so Gareth isn’t the first person in the world to do it. Course, League is different to Union so there is that difference….

Having said that, that interview made me cry. SO heart warming.
