Yes, I am writing about a woman on a blog called Manhunt Daily. You might have a problem with this, since most likely, you are a man who’s here to look at other men. Maybe you totally hate women. Or perhaps, on a slightly less extreme note, you dislike viewing their various lady parts. Whatever the case may be, you can stop reading this post any time you want! You might have already stopped, and you might be leaving a comment right now (without reading the post) about how much you don’t want to see a woman on here.
If that’s true, I kind of feel sorry for you and your entire existence! You’re going to miss out on what a phenomenal woman Laverne Cox is. The transgender actress played the role of Sophia on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, appearing in some of the most emotionally riveting scenes the show had to offer. More recently, she wrote a piece for The New York Times entitled “The Bullies Don’t Draw A Distinction“. Here’s an excerpt, for your reading pleasure:
“Many in the trans community are fed up with L.G.B.T. organizations that continue to erase trans identity or just give lip service to trans issues. We need our cisgender allies – gay and straight – to treat transgender lives as if they matter, and trans people need multiple seats at the tables in the organizations that say they’re interested in L.G.B.T. equality; this absence has been painful since Stonewall…
“Everyone has a stake in ending the stigma against trans identities, but gay people may have a more personal interest. When kids are bullied and called anti-gay slurs, it’s rarely because the victim seemed to be attracted to members of the same sex. It’s because the child did not conform to gender expectations based on the sex they were assigned at birth. The bullies might yell ‘gay’, but it’s about gender expression.”
You can read the full piece here, and when you’re done, take a moment to consider why the “T” in LGBT is so often cast aside (or forgotten) in our discussions of equality. You might think their problems aren’t your problems, and their gender identity or gender expression has nothing to do with your sexuality… But, nope, you are wrong! Sorry.

Interesting. I have to admit I do not know how to react or be around someone transgender but I would never ignore or avoid one in public.
She’s an awesome actress and I didn’t realize how well spoken she was. Brava!
She really is a phenomenally brave woman to put everything out there like that, I applaud her just for being her, let alone being a really talented actress on top of it.

Your comment shows how closed minded even some of us gays can get, when many of us are out their struggling, fighting for equal rights, and so on. Since when did there need to be a guideline on how to “be” around a transgender?
Your right my exposure to this is slim to non! But I am not closed minded so your wrong there. I feel everyone has rights but like meany in this world it is hard to figure out what rights need to be applied here other than the basic human rights we all expect and deserve. Rights as a man a women or as a Gay person. Equal rights sure we all want and deserve that but what specific rights depends on the individual and how they precieve themselves in life. It’s more confusion than anything.
Its called exposure and education. Its why many people are uncomfortable or afraid of gays. And then when they find out they have a relative or friend who is gay and theyre not the boogieman, they come to accept it. People are even more uncomfortable with transgender people than gay people.
