An Interview With Deviant Otter: Life, Love & Living The Gay Porn Dream

By now you’ve probably picked up on the fact that Dewitt and I are both fans of Devin Totter, the guy who runs the new Deviant Otter site. He has one of the more amazing sets of balls that I’ve ever encountered, and that’s not all! He’s also really, really, really slutty. And proud of it!

We chatted over Skype the other day. It was a little hard to concentrate with my dick at full attention the whole time, but he did tell me about his new site, and also about why he’s very good at drinking piss but needs to work on doing public appearances.

Hey there! How’s everything going with the new site?

It’s good. It’s going. The first month there have been a good amount of people coming, because I’d announced it to all my Tumblr followers, and Vine was a really good avenue to get people to my site, although they just deleted my page. I have a background in the adult industry, so I’m a lot more used to seeing some sites launching that are very successful from the beginning. But right now, it’s just like a learning process, because we’re still figuring out what works and what doesn’t work. I’m having a good time with it.

And what made you decide to start this site?

I started a Tumblr, because I want to get laid, and I was tired of seeing all these hot, perfectly defined men. My Tumblr would have never taken off if it wasn’t for abeardedboy in Montreal. I was never expecting to have my own website, until i got laid off. I wanted to stay in the adult industry, and my friends who still worked there wanted to give me a site.

Do people wonder where you came from?

A lot of people don’t know who I am, which is fine. I think one of the biggest questions I have is where are you from. I need an “About Me” section. Some people recognize me as that frat boy from Maverick Men, but I’m just some random scruffy guy.

Tell me about Maverick Men.

I started doing stuff with them back when I was nineteen or twenty, but they didn’t release a lot of their scenes until later. I started going over to their place and having threeways, and then they started putting them on XTube. We definitely don’t get to hang out as much as we used to. They’re good people. They helped get a lot of traffic to my site in the beginning, and they’re very awesome for doing that.

And how do you find the models for your site?

Luckily, I was just a really big slut! They told me I had to have fourteen scenes to start the site, and I was like, “Fuck, where am i going to find fourteen guys that are slutty enough to do this?” Tumblr was a really good way to find guys, but at first, I just started scrolling through my phone. Last year, I shot with Fort Troff and met Tony Orion and his boyfriend, then I convinced them to have a threeway.

Finding guys isn’t hard. It’s the actual filming that’s hard. I’m only one person, and if I’m getting fucked really hard, it’s difficult to position the camera. It’s important to balance, because if you’re too involved in the camera work, then the sex suffers. If you’re too involved in getting fucked, then the footage suffers.

What are your shoots like?

Sometimes, it’s just starting by talking for an hour. I don’t like rushing with guys. I want to know what they’re into and what their favorite things to do are. I can tell you that once I have a system down, the content will keep improving. The Maverick Men are the only guys out there that really have the same style, but they’re lucky because they’re two people.

People tell me it’s the worst idea to market myself this way, but my site really isn’t porn. It’s just sex. People are conditioned to like a certain kind of porn. I might fuck the guy right away, because I want to fuck him. In real life, you don’t start off kissing and then give handjobs and then blow each other. That’s not what happens. So people don’t know how to process videos when things don’t happen in the right order.

What have other challenges been?

I hate talking about myself. It’s always been my dream to be a porn star, ever since the first porn I saw, but I didn’t realize there were so many public appearances and interviews. I did my first appearance as Deviant Otter in Key West and I sat at the bar with a book. I’m just a really boring guy who likes to post myself cumming on the internet. I took my boyfriend to Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend in Washington, and it was overwhelming.

What does your boyfriend think about your job?

He’s a little fucking pervert. I met him when I was on a Maverick Men shoot. He was a bouncer at a club. He waited two months to tell me that he’d been jerking off to my stuff online. People in Boston recognize me now, and now people are starting to recognize him, too, because he’s in some of the scenes. He’s definitely very supportive. He’s my human jockstrap.

He’s trying to shove it all the way in, and I’m trying to get away from it. I met him at the Black Party in New York, and he’s such a nerd. It’s really cute.
